Here's a picture of the work in progress. I show this picture in order to show a technique I like to use when gluing parts. Instead of using clamps, that may leave marks, I use elastic bands. They are gentle on the parts and I can slowly add more and more of them in order to add pressure.

Wow, this is something different!

Thanks. It's a very nice kit and the 1:6 scale version will be over 40" long. I wish I knew how to add pictures and notes in this website. I really don't know what to do. Do I add to "Albums" or "projects". Do you know the difference?

For example, I don't know how to add another picture to this thread.

Hey Rick, you can assign one or more albums to a project. An album is just a "container" for pictures and you can add more pictures to the album you have created. There are buttons next to the title of your album you can klick on. With "Upload" you can upload new pictures. In "Manage" you can add descriptions to your pictures and in "Edit" there is other stuff you can do like changing the name or description of your album or assigning the title pictures. I hope this helps.

Hi Alex, thanks for the tip. So, I've added another picture to the album and I see how it works: you can enlarge one picture at a time. However, is there a way to connect a comment to a picture? I'd like to make some sort of construction blog.

I've added a couple of pictures today. One shows Assembly 17 in the instructions and the other shows that assembly inserted into the chassis. If you look really closely, you can see contact between the inside eyelet and the wheel. Now, I have to figure out why I have this contact. Since the contact is minimal I will wait until I've built the actual model to this point and see if I get the same result.

Think it will end with either placing the connections a bit inward or the wheel outward... These wheels also have some freedom in movement and roundness, so some extra space would be nice...

Also when enlarging dimensions, every fault is also enlarged...

I've added a picture of the 3D of Assembly 18. In the real model, I had a hard time squaring the carriage so in the 1/6 version I will include a squaring jig instead of those two separate cross pieces. The jig will have notches and instructions to remove the longitudinal pieces, leaving only the cross pieces once everything is glued together. Squaring is a big problem in many wood kits and including a square part, where you just remove the longitudinal parts, should be a normal part of every kit.

I added a couple of pictures of the actual model. Building the real model is showing me some places when I can improve the larger model. In particular, I find there are a number of places where I can create a removable jig to help the builder square up everything easily.

Any update, Rick? Looks super cool!

Album info

I am building this kit twice; once from the box, using the actual parts and doing whatever I want to to do build a nice kit, and the second time in Solidworks.

I am building the kit in Solidworks, in 1/6th scale to match the various figures that are available. Very little is available in 1/10 scale but there are some figures available in 1/6 scale. Once the model is completed in 3D CAD, I will cut the parts on a laser-cutter and build it again, so a third time, I guess, in the larger scale.
