Alexander Aristides CronvallBeautiful car and great work Steve ! but i have one question that always gets me confused when it comes to the F40. how many versions is there ? it's the road version built by Ferrari, then there's the competition and the LM version ? ore is the LM and competition version the same ? The LM version is built by michelotto if i got my facts straight but how about the competition version ?

The F40 Competizione is a non-sponsored, more powerful version of the F40 LM cars that were being raced, which was the result of consumer requests following the order of a French importer, who wanted to enter one in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. 10 examples were built, the first two being called F40 LM's, and the remaining 8 being F40 Competizione, as Ferrari felt that the LM tag was too restrictive. They are the same car but different, but the Competizione is basically faster than the LM. Following is a history of Michelotto:
HISTORY
Michelotto began in Padua 1969.
Since its beginning, it was responsible for competition cars, making it a protagonist since 1971 with the victory of the Italian Turismo Championship Gr.1 Class 850.
Continuing still in 1973 with the debut in the Italian Championship Rally of the Stratos that won five Italian Championships and more than thirty absolute victories.
During the following years the relation with Ferrari was established using the 308 GR 4 in the rallies.
It was a fantastic choice that transformed into more than thirty absolute victories, including two Targa Florio, two Tour De France, an Italian Championship Rally and a Spanish one.
Still collaborating with Ferrari, an experimental car was created in 1983 destined to substitute the 308 GR4 , resulting obsolete from regulation modifications.
The innovative technical solutions in this model, well-known like the 308 GT/M, were transferred to the Ferrari GTO Evolution, realized in 1985 in tight collaboration with the House of Maranello.
The abolition of the Gr B berlins in the rallies prevented the debut in the race of the car that was then used in ?87 as a basis for the realization of the road F40.
In 1989 the F40 LM evolution was realized, for the I.M.S.A. races in the United States.
Managed directly by the Michelotto team, from the beginning, the car demonstrated a remarkable level of competitiveness, obtaining good results and setting the basis for subsequent developments.
The direct experience on the racetrack continued until 1992 and in 1993, with Osella PA16 in the Prototypes Italian Championship, brilliantly won in 1992.
In 1993 the Ferrari F40 CSAI-GT ? and 348 CSAI-GT were realized, destined for the Granturismo Italian Championship, winning in '93 and '94 two absolute titles and three category ones.
From '94 to '96 Ferrari F40 GTE and 348 GTC LM were realized which allowed for 10 important absolute and category victories. In 1997 Ferrari entrusted total management of the F333 SP project to Michelotto.
After having carried out important development works, from '97 to 2001, thirty-five victories were won in a row, including a 24h of Daytona, two 12h of Sebring, one Petit Le Mans, a category win at the 24h of Le Mans and 4 Fia Sport Car Championships.
The F333SP was built in 40 models and entered in history as one of most long-lived and winning cars.
In 2000 the 360 N-GT was built that, in 2001, won the World Championship FIA N-GT and the French Championship N-GT.
In 2002, the 360 N-GT won the English Championship N-GT, the French Championship N-GT and the Grand Championship-AM GT in the USA.

I have been building a 1:24 Tamiya Ferrari Competizione F40, over the last couple of months, before finishing my MFH Ferrari 312 1967. Wanted to get back into building after over a year off, felt this was the ideal way.
I've added to the engine some photo-etch, braided line and turned aluminium shocks to the suspension, for a more aesthetic, pleasing appearance in viewing the model...
