I can't make up my mind: Should I build the "more colorful" version with white wing tips or a "regular" version? The first one looks better but I guess this will be the version everyone's choosing. Modelers can be quite vain...

I love the colorful one with the white wingtips.
And I guess the J-21 is unique enough to not see a similar one very often!

Very nice detail. What are the seat belts?
25 December 2012, 16:46
Bernd Korte
@Andrew: The seatbelts are made from the kit's PE parts.
@Malte: I guess you're right. I also tend more and more to the white-winged version...

Hello Bernd, I think what version you build is your choice...😉 Build the plane YOU want...😉

The 'D' on the tail looks so much beter than the 'O-Umlaut' -> should help to go for the white tips option :-D

I agree with the others, I like the white wings and the "D." This plane has always been in the back of my mind as one of those unusual subjects that I like to do now and then. How does the kit go together, Bernd? I don't see much filler in your photo. 🙂

I've two kits of these...One in the J-21A prop version and one in the J-21R jet version. I wouldn't have a preference between the two, but I'm very interested in what exterior green you are using. I note that what I can read of the color sheet calls it 'Olive Green', but I can't make out the brand recommended. I've repeatedly looked for a 'Swedish green' and pretty much settled on IJA green as the closest to what I see....

You mean there's more than one shade of olive green? 🙂 🙂 🙂
26 December 2012, 01:50
Bernd Korte
Ok, I'll do the blue "D" 🙂
@Bill: The fuselage halves went together pretty well with only little filler needed. The wing-fuselage and twin boom-fuselage fit is another story and needs more attention (filling/sanding).
@Kelly: The color sheet recommends Gunze H309. I kept it simple and looked at my Vallejo cross reference chart which suggests Model Air 016 US Dark Green for H309.

More than just one shade? A quick count of two paint sources brings up no less than ten variations of the theme, including two shades of Italian olive green. I'm surprised there is no Spanish olive green.

I'll be following with interest.

I was joking about the olive green. I have at least 10 bottles of olive green from different manufacturers and they're all different. Comes in handy for post shading though! 🙂

My christmas holidays are drawing to an end. I didn't manage to finish the Saab, but will pic up this project next time I have a few days of spare time. All decals have been applied and the model has been sealed with Future floor wax.

I like it as it...I'm looking forward to the fini 'walk-around'.

Whats the fitting of the kit?
30 December 2012, 21:29
Bernd Korte
In general it's quite good for short run. I had to use some filler and sanding sticks on the wing-fuslage and wing-twin booms joints though.

Thanks Bernd

The Saab is finally finished 🙂 The fragile landing gear was quite the challenge but in the end it all went well.

I like that a lot, Bernd. Cool scheme too - was the white a temporary application?

well done Bernd! i like it 👍

Thanks Mike! Yes, some kind of temporary exercise markings. I tried to simulate some wear and tear on the tanks that I noticed on photos of the real aircraft using the salt technique, but I'm not 100% satisfied with the result.

Very nice, Bernd. I have to ask...what was the green you used for the craft's basic color?
1 May 2013, 01:10
Bernd Korte
Thanks guys!
@Kelly: I used Vallejo Model Air 16 (US Dark Green) for the green camouflage.

Hi Jan, thanks for your posting! Now it's too late to correct those flaws..argh 🙁 But it's good to get some feedback from a compatriot of the plane's origin home country 🙂
