Bf-109 e-7 trop desert base.

Album image #1
I got this kit cheap and I really like the desert camo scheme. I will try to make this in flying pose with a desert base. Thats why I need the pilot. Pretty happy with the result.

Album image #2
The prop i primed black and painted german dark green.

Album image #3
Cockpit parts are primed balck and painted RLM02. This is also added to the nose inlet.

Album image #4
I detail paintedn the cockpit parts and used a ammo wash to outline the details. after that I used Yellow oaker oil paint to give a dusty effect to the cockpit parts.

Album image #5
Decals preformace is great.

Album image #6
Pilot figure is added but the feet need to be snapped off the get a good fit.

Album image #7
Prop is finished. the fit of the main parts looks very decent.

Album image #8
All main parts fit great almost no filler needed.

Album image #9
The exhaust is painted burned metal and then a brown wash is added. The desert scheme has a red and white nose cone and i'm happy with the result I got.

Album image #10
canopy masking on german planes is not easy and this kit doens't have very pronounced canopy frame. The fit is decent and I sprayed RLM02 first before priming.

Album image #11
I primed the plane black and decided to try Tamiya tan as a pre schade due to the desert scheme.

Album image #12
I spayed RLM light blue first and I used a bit to much paint. So the preshading is lost a bit. After the light blue I used mr.hobby h-72 dark earth and added a bit of tamiya XF-57 buff to lighten the paint.

Album image #13
I was really happy with the result before I started the green spots. I should have practised more before I tried motteling in 1/72 scale. But I didn't and I hope I can fix it with the weathering later.

Album image #14
The decals are great and easy to apply like with most new airfix kits.

Album image #15
I used a dark bown ammo wash on the whole airframe.

Album image #16
I made the base form old model boxes and food boxes. I applied some toilet paper with white glue and added some rocks. After that I used many colour and dry brushes. I wanted to blend the camo scheme with the base and added some static grass. I should have used a darker green for the grass but It doesn't look bad at all with these cheap materials.

Album image #17
I bended some sprue and used a sprue number indicator as a slot to keep the plane in angle. I drilled a hole and slot in the underside of the plane so I can take it off any time I want.

Album image #18
I need to cover up most of the bad looking green spots so Weathering is needed. The first step chipping with aluminium paint. The prop is also finished. Really happy with the red and white cone.

Album image #19
I desided to fade the whole plane with multiple oil paints. This masks the mistakes and makes it look much more dusty.

Album image #20
This model has many very small parts that are easy to destroy and you need to be very careful. I broke the antenna when I tried to to clean the flash. I made a new one form styrine sheet. The small parts do look decent when you apply them. I also painted the guns and added the landing gear.

Album image #21
I didn't know if my antenna was strong enough to try and make a antenna cable. But it worked in the end and doesn't look to bad.

Album image #22
Finally I removed the canopy masking and added a plane to the base.

Album image #23
finished base.

Album image #24
Finshed project. Decently happy with the result. I did make some mistakes but the cover up was decently succesfull. Also tried some new things and I got this kit cheap.

I love this. It's a difficult scheme to do in 1/72. I tried and failed. The dio base and weathering really lift it to another level. 🙂

Brilliant execution of kit build, paint job, weathering and then to top it off with such a cracking base and display! Wonderful not seen such movement conveyed in a static model. You are on top form

Thanks Rui Neil and Sy!!! Thanks for the kind words this was a fun build and this scheme is indeed very hard at this scale. It needed a lot of work before I would say it was acceptable.

Album info

I Got this kit very cheap and I really like the camo options. I decided to make this one in flying pose and make desert base for the finished model. I hope I can make the camo scheme work in this scale.
