Finally won this kit on eBay. Have been outbid on a few since I discovered that this boxing even existed.sets a personal record for me as my most expensive kit and the biggest.
Best bit is that because it is being shipped via the GSP the cost is much less than the kits I was outbid on which is another first as GSP shipping is usually more expensive.
Now if there was some way I could get some more money and buy an Alley Cat Boomerang this would be the best Christmas ever. Actually make that second best, I had a really good Christmas in 1990 but that's a story for another forum

Congratulations Wilky! I'm jealous. I think I would start building it the minute it arrived. Have fun.

I am tempted to do that myself but there are two reasons I have to be patient
Firstly this particular boxing is now hard to find and secondly I made a rule when I got back into modelling to only make what I have two of.
So now I'm hoping to get one of the latest boxing of this kit and aftermarket decals. How long that will take, no one knows.
Just received notification that it is on it's way. It may make it home before I do

Hi Robert, this one is going in the collection. I'm saving up to buy the latest release of this kit and some aftermarket decals for one to build.
Back in the Eighties when I stopped making kits unlike most I became a collector and was still buying kits. Then years later I lost my job and had to sell pretty much everything I owned.
Four years ago I developed acute angina and lost my job and was stuck at home and to amuse myself I bought an Airfix 1/72 Boomerang kit as I never built one of those before and the model kit bug bit me hard and I set about reinstating the collection of Australian Air Force aircraft I had to sell years earlier.
So now I collect first and have a couple of kits I am currently assembling. Ones I never built as a child, mainly.
The Mosquito is another aircraft I never built, so I am keen to get the latest boxing and the aftermarket decals so I can build one. Meanwhile I am pretty stoked to have acquired this one for the collection.
I now have four 1/24 kits. I couldn't even afford one back in the Eighties. I was always very envious of my friends that had 1/24 kits so I am just dying to build one

OH YES, I'd like some 1/24th kits of some of the WWII fighters !! But, they are pretty $$ for me. I have quite a few WWII 32nd Trumpy kits I'm still saving till I get a bit better at painting, and that will have to do for me.! I do also have quite a few British aircraft too. Besides I'm limited to space, as it's all here in my bedroom.
I know, I wish I had kept all the kits I've sold when I thought I wouldn't want them ! Yikes
I also have had the heart issues (quadruple bypass) 13 years ago, 3 years ago an Aortic stint. I've been disabled basically all my life, caught Polio at age 2 in 1955. These past few years I've had to slow to a crawl, arthritis in my lower back has gotten pretty bad, and 60 + years huffing around on crutches has taken it's toll on my shoulders and elbows! I pretty much live in my electric chair and don't do much walking anymore.
So modeling is what keeps me sane these days. And yes I have a closet FULL of models. As a matter of fact I was just in there today re-arranging so that I can fit a few more. Seems I can't build them as fast as I can buy them. LOL But I can't seem to stop buying them!!
What's left over I hope my grandson will take interest in. He's only 5 but definitely loves cars, trucks, planes, helis, construction vehicles, emergency vehicles, basically anything that moves !!
I'm hoping to stay around long enough to teach him what I've learned and to have fun building them.
I'll bet the detail on the 24th scale kits are just awesome. I bet that Mosquito is just Bad Ass !!
I know you'll have fun with that one!! LOL Can't wait to see it.

So it's more than two years later but finally I purchased a second kit and I will be starting a new project once it arrives.
Can't wait for it to be here

That's good news Wilky, looks like your patience has paid off. I hope you're going to post the completed build on here. Are you doing it in Aussie markings?

Yes, a RAAF bird for sure

I also purchased the Alley Cat Boomerang (will need a second one) and a 1/24 Vintage Fighter Series P-40 for USD 413 which will now be my most expensive kit.
The Alley Cat Boomerang was $290 (£135 plus shipping)
I can already here you ask how is such rampant expenditure possible. I sold my 1973 Ford Fairmont 2dr Sedan.
I've given up on one dream to create another reality

I won't even bother to get a second VFS P-40. Not at that price

I didn't realise there was a 1/24 P-40. Just Googled it and it looks good. Is it for the collection or to be built?

This one is for the collection.
Never know maybe next time I'm cashed up there will be another available.
The guy I purchased it from has two more but not with the markings for Clive Caldwell's machine

Do they really need PE ?

I'm not using the figures so it would be good to have the detail because it should be visible

So I have the kit and when I checked it out the previous owner had removed the decals for all but one British version.
I contacted the guy and he said he would still have them.
After three weeks I contacted him again and he said that he had just moved house and didn't know where they were and ended up giving me a partial refund.
So I purchased a set of Novascale decals and they never arrived.
The Novascale guy is a total dick and has decided I'm a theif and banned me from any further purchases.
He actually has an international reputation for being a dick.
Does anyone have any Australian decals sitting around doing nothing?

That's a pain in the rear end.
Any chance you could do the main markings with home-made masks and the smaller numbers with generic decals? I do most of my markings with home-made masks these days, partly because I don't get on with decals, but also because the end result is usually better.

Painting is my weak point.
It's definitely taken the wind out of my sails

Painting is may weak point as well, but if you have a printer and a reasonably steady hand to help make the masks, the painting part is the easy bit.

I don't have a printer.
I do everything with my phone
