In most albums, when I see them in slideshow mode I see a very wide gray band above and below the picture to the point almost needing to browse down to click on previous and next

In the second picture of the screenshot album, you see an album from Alexander G, wher you really need to browse down to read the comments, while we have those gray band above and below

It seems to depend on the orientation of the picture, since some of the pictures on my own album JASDF UH-60 Platz Duo 1/144 | Album by hetspanjaard (1:144) are ok, and others not

I uploaded new pics with 2160 width, but still have a grey border. Is that due to the hight of 1620 (4:3) ? Should I use 3:2 instead?

@Bughunter: We want to show the biggest picture possible without cropping. a 4:3 image will indeed have a grey border. If we would take the full width you would have to scroll to see the full height of picture.

@spanjaard: When we moved the "view: slideshow|mosaic|albums" to save space it was requested to move it up again.

We also don't want the next-prev button to jump up and down for every picture. So we currently have a container taking up as much width and height as possible (so both image+next+prev+caption) can be seen on a single screen. I also don't want any clutter on the images. (eg. showing prev-next or caption over the image)

One thing still on the list: check if i can combine prev-next with the thumbnails at the top.

One question:
I noticed today, that if I change to the list view on a older album with smaller pics the pics are blown up to the new size without the dark border. Is that also possible for the normal Slideview?

Revisiting this topic for a bit: what is the recommended album image aspect ratio that minimizes the grey borders? Looks like it may be 3:2 (standard based on 35mm negative). Are there any plans to change this anytime soon (to a more common 4:3)? I would like to update my older albums. Thanks.
