M4 Sherman Diorama I
Here it is! My first model in who knows how long (OK -- 20+ years 😉 ).
Putting this kit together you will learn what a sponson filler is and why you want one (the kit somewhat famously omits them).

Here's how it started. Paint is Testors olive drab... applied the old fashioned way. With a brush! (I did not own an airbrush yet.)
I actually think you can get a decent result brushing if you are patient and keep a wet edge. Not that I plan on brush painting an entire model again!

I bought a gold leaf mini just to paint those few rounds. Success!
The kit came with its own stowage. I used hemp twine for the tie downs.
Here is the finished dio! By the time I was done I had acquired an airbrush. The bottom of the tank got sprayed with flat earth and the rest buff. I liked the way the buff was giving a nice dusty look and ended up overdoing it a tad. The result changed the tint of OD more than I intended. Lesson for next time! 🙂
I was feeling brave and wanted to add a small tree to the dio.
...covered the wire with Apoxie Sculpt and added some foliage.

All the pics have been uploaded. Allow me to introduce this humble project...
I've been inspired by all the wonderful and interesting posts shared on this site and figured it was time to work up the courage to share one of my own.
Like a lot of us here, I grew up putting models together and then took a break (intentionally or not) during the transition to "adult life".
I'd contemplated getting back into the hobby for a while and finally took the plunge in October of 2018. I started from scratch in terms of supplies as my stash from childhood had been lost to time (and super old anyhow!)
I chose Tamiya's M4 Sherman for my comeback kit. Enjoy the result! 😛
