So I used spring steel instead of brass by accident for the wrist pin on the first landing and it was almost impossible to cut! I better be more careful with what I pull out of the box of little bits of metal.

The landing gear continues to challenge me. I have one leg complete maybe. Not sure how to mask the bottom of the pod so it remains black while the rest gets painted silver. I kind of wish I had made the gear spring loaded because it is barely less complex without that. The gear pad is a ground down part from the kit, the rest is PE and bits and pieces of brass rod and tubing.

Trying to figure out how to mask the door on the cargo pod. I want to do the orange scheme. The door is recessed about 2mm. The pattern on the door is raised up about 1mm. Attempts to work tape in there so far has suffered from indistinct edges, torn tape, scratched paint, fail and sorrow.

Maybe bluetack or plastacine might work to mask it? you could then trim around it with a sharp knife to trim away any overhanging parts then just pull it off when finished? Like the soft masking used on tanks and aircraft but with a sharper edge?

I spent 3 hours masking and burnishing down the tape with a toothpick, and the results are not so great. I even gave it a shot of white paint before I did the black to try to seal up any leaks. The white vinyl tamiya tape didn't work well. The masking tape worked somewhat better but not great.

Sounds a little bit frustrating 🙁

Future floor wax didn't go so well. Think maybe i used the wrong needle with the nozzle on my airbrush. The future beaded up and I had to flood it to get it to cover. Hopefully it will look better after I dullcote it,

Now decal decal decal decal.

All done! I'm pretty happy with the result, despite a few issues. This was the first time I'd used photoetch and the first time I'd used future. I also hadn't done decals since I was a kid. Very fun and relaxing, also made me watch the silly show I loved as a kid.
