Album info

Anyone who knows me, knows that THIS is my favourite ship of all time. This is the ship that got me back into the modelling hobby. I had bought the 1/72 Fine Molds Falcon, but quickly realized I didn't posses the skills to do it justice. 10 years later, I still haven't done much on the kit, for fear of screwing it up! ?

I've been sitting on this smaller Falcon kit for a couple of years, but finally built up the courage to try it, try some techniques, and see if I'm ready to tackle the big guy. I think I'm pretty close. ?

So this one is a bit of a weird one. It's based on the Falcon as it was in The Last Jedi. I used the dish from the 1/144 Falcon though to make it look like the old trilogy. And I painted the figures in the cockpit as if it were from The Empire Strikes Back. So . . . it's a bit of a mish mash. But I'm reasonably happy with how it came out.

The coloured panels were custom made decals. They laid down beautifully, and in the end, saved time versus trying to mask them all off and paint them, and I think they came out better looking than if I had painted them too. I'll definitely go that route for the big falcon, but some refinement on the colours and damage will need to be done first.

Weathering was done using Vallejo pigment powders for the exhaust, Tamiya Weathering Master (for the streaking), Vallejo Wash, and AK Weathering Pencils and then sealed with Alclad Flat.Weathering and damage is reasonably consistent to the 5 foot model.

This is a tough model to get "right". The weathering is a very distinctive part of the ship, and (in my opinion), most people do it WAY too heavy. So it's hard to find that right point at which to stop, before it's too much. I probably could do a little bit more, but, for fear of overdoing it, I stopped it here.

Enjoy.
