Although I have a few Wellingtons, I thought I would start with the Revell version.

This one is going to be a 12 Sqn version from Aug 1941 flown by Flt Lt Roy Langlois.

There are a number of sprues and the usual clear parts and decals as well, what seem to be, quite detailed instructions apart from the black and white painting schemes. 🙂

A shame that you've got missing parts Peerke. 🙁

Decals on cockpit controls and back of main door. Gun cockpits finally 🙁 together. I hope they fit as they are a real issue to get together. There are 4 pieces to each gun cockpit and the moulding is not the best to say the least! 🙂

Fuselage together and wings added. As mentioned by another mate re the Mk II Wellington, the gun turrets are a real pain to get together and above all make them fit..! 🙁 The fuselage went together although the join pins are very small and also there are very few of them. The wings went together ok but they did not fit that well nor easily on to the fuselage. Quite a bit of filler was required. 🙂

Tail plane added. Fit was poor but after filling (underneath tail) it seems ok. 🙂

Sprayed with Vallejo primer and then added some pre-shading to the top of the aircraft. 🙂

Just reviewed your timeline-and not that this matters in any way- but, did Mk II's have the RAF grey-green interiors as stated? I've seen them in a brick-red colour on Mk.I's. Well, the end is ever closer and the details, the details!…..
4 February 2022, 22:07
Guy Rump
That is a good point Andy, I took it that the instructions were correct without checking. I've just added a photo of the cockpit of a Wellington that is being re-built at RAF Cosford and this appears to have the interior grey green. Always good to check though. 👍

like Andy Ball i have a airfix wellington that i found most parts fitted without chucking them in the vise due to anger the only part i sanded was some left over glue on the underside
12 February 2022, 06:45
Guy Rump
The new tooled Airfix Wellington seems to be superior to the Revell (MPM) Charlie. Not too far off finishing this one. It has taken a lot of perseverance but hopefully it will turn out ok. 🙂

Canopies, bits and pieces added. Aerials and rigging added. A little weathering applied (exhaust staining and panel lining). I now declare this aircraft complete. It denotes a 12 Sqn aircraft from August 1941. A little information about the aircraft is below. 🙂

On the 5th August 1941 at 22.25 hour a Vickers Wellington II bomber W5421 PH-G of 12 Squadron took off from RAF Binbrook bound with 12 other Wellingtons for a raid on the railway marshalling yards in the German city of Aachen.
The Wellington had engine trouble just south of Aachen and was unable to bomb the target. The crew then jettisoned their bombs 15 to 20 miles from the target and turned for home. Over Antwerp the starboard engine caught fire and they began to lose height to 800 feet and they realised they could not reach England. The plane did a wheels down landing at 02.19 on the 6th August at the Antwerp-Deurne airfield in occupied Belgium.
The crew destroyed the aircraft to prevent it falling into enemy hands and escaped by firing 12 emergency flares into the fuselage before a German fire-tender arrived. The Germans probably believed the crew had been trapped in the burning aircraft and only in the morning light realised that there were no bodies in the plane. This gave the crew valuable time to climb the barbed wire and escape. After climbing the fence they split into two groups of three.
Flt Lt Roy Brouard Langlois (the pilot, nicknamed Daddy Long Legs) was later captured, finishing up as a POW in Stalag Luft III at Sagan. He took part in 'The Great Escape' on March 24th 1944 but was recaptured and returned to Sagan. He earned a Distinguished Flying Cross and attained the rank of Wing Commander before retiring from the RAF in 1962. He died in 1993 aged 76.

Great work here - the MPM 1/72 Wellingtons (of which this Revell kit is a re-box) get quite a bit of 'flak' (excuse the pun) as difficult builds - nice to see perseverance and good-old-fashioned modelling skill being exercised. 'Shake-n'-bake' are okay, but can sometimes be a bit too easy. 👍 😄
25 February 2022, 10:58
Guy Rump
Very many thanks for your kind comment Derek. I admit it was a challenge to build (especially the gun turrets) but after an absence I decided to finish it come what may. 🙂 👍

Thanks for the like Richard. 👍

well done good job and any other word to that affect i love it you might know that i live in new Zealand and my wellington was flown by a new Zealander ate the time on the way back from a night mission the plane was attached by a German night fighter the fighter hit the starboard engine and it court on fire the tail gunner shot down the fighter the pilot James Allen ward no 75 new Zealand squadron climbed out of the small dome on top of the fuselage and climbed onto the wing using only a blanket and having no parachute after fighting the slipstream and the fire he put out the fire and climbed back into the plane for a safe landing back at base
