The addition of "gold" foil is brilliant. 🙂

Thanks - I used MicroScale Foil Adhesive and the kit came with some gold foil sheets. You can pick up gold, silver, copper foil sheet packs (pretty cheap) on Amazon if you search for metallic foil candy wrappers. They are great for a lot of projects - specially for realistic NASA / JPL spacecraft heat shielding.

This looks fantastic! I love the foil.

I was lucky enough to "know a guy" at JPL and I got to visit and see the final assembly room to watch them putting together the Earth and Mars version of the next rover delivery vehicle (same or similar sky crane used in the last delivery). Totally awesome, plus they had some HUGE scale models of their prior probes!

The final assembly room is always awesome to visit, along with the "Mars yard" testing area. If you ever get the chance to attend our annual Explore JPL event (one weekend usually in late May, tickets are 'free' but limited) you get to see a lot of the campus including the Spaceflight Operations "mission control" center. The scale engineering models are incredible.

Nice build. The heat shielding looks great.

Michael I did get to go to the Mars Yard and see the Earth analog rover. I may or may not have been gifted a scrap of the famously destroyed wheel. It was something I'll never forget. I also got to see The Ops room and I saw the "how to crash into Jupiter for Dummies" from the Cassini desk. (I think it was Cassini anyhow...)
