yeah, but way too many mistakes and shortcuts from Italeri, I drove HEMTT's for about one and a half years, both the cargo and fueler versions when I was in support platoon. It is normal that they send new soldiers to support instead of to a line company. I did it n both Fort Hood when I was in 1 67 AR, 2nd BDE, 4ID, and in Friedberg, Germany in 1 37 AR, 1 BDE, 1 AD. The outriggers on this model are really sloppily made, the base plates are not a fast feature, they are only on when the crane is in use. When the crane is not in use they go in a little place that is on the left side of the right outrigger. Clearance lights are missing from the top of the cab. The crane is missing a boom. The bed was a nightmare, and didn't come out completely strait, but in that case, those panels get bent quite often so that can represent a bent panel I guess. I also have the tanker version, the older one and after this am kinda dreading it. I just seen yesterday that Italeri released an updated Fueler, how updated I dont know though.

That build looks really great, the only problem I really see is the yellow as a background for the bumper numbers. The background is Sand on green vehicles and on tan vehicles their is no background, they just paint them directly over the CARC paint. I do have some pictures from tan painted fuelers from Fort Hood when I was stationed there. How you dusted up the tires looks really awesome. The build looks really good. I am not so good at weathering though. I will probably just put a wash of sand on my truck, if even that.

I know, I noticed that, and I am kinda nervous about using the decals I got with the model because they look to be about 50 years old. I used some masking tape on mine to make the background though and have some black number and letter decals I will be using for my bumper numbers. Problem is my Model Master Sand is about 15 years old and its having a bit of problem drying, but it still looks good once its dried, I've been trying to put these rectangles for the bumper number on now for 3 days, that is how long its tanking to dry. Usually these paints are pretty good dry after 1 hour. Wish it wasn't so hard to get Model Master paint here in Germany, some of the Revell paints are OK, but, for instance the Revell Panzerdunklegelb is terrible, and I like to use Model Master Afrika Gelb. The Revell one seems to change to a weird brown color once a Clearcoat is added. It has happened to me twice alreadey, once with my Panzer II and my 2nd Kübelwagon.

Well, it is finished, except for the fact that it doesn't have a fuel tank. Couldn't do anything about that, Italeri doesn't have extra parts for this anymore. If I can get the dimensions of the Fuel tank, maybe I can find something to put there that is the right size. Until then, ti is finished, and adding a Fuel tank at a later date wont be all that difficult I think. The bumper number of this vehicle is actually one I drove and TC ed in Friedberg from the 1st Armored Divisions 37th Armored Regiment when I was stationed there.

Nice going with your build. I had the same problem with Italeri when my tanker version I lost the clear sprue. When I contacted Italeri to see if I could buy a replacement they said no because they don't make the part no more. So I asked again but this time for the newly released kit and it wasn't a problem bought to easy, and it was exactly the same sprue as I originally asked for. Ask them again if you can purchase the fuel tank from the new release kit, I'm sure they'll be happy to supply.

Yeah, they did offer to sell me the new kit, I think it was the gun truck, at a cheaper price. Right now I cant be buying anything though because I am unemployed since 5 weeks. Kinda sucks but I have a lot of time to work on my models though. Not sure what you mean Thomas, you can type in German too, I understand German well. I kinda messed up the windows though taking the masking tape off of em, after 2 months being on it, and the paint and everything, it was stuck on there pretty good. I only use Revell and model master paints because I cant get much else here being on a tight budget like I am, of course, I have ordered special colors like Deck Blue from Lifecolor before, I can also get Humbrol paint here actually, but I dont like it, it is way to thick, even thicker than the Revell paint, and I used it a few times, but was just not impressed with it. Thanks all

Album info

Here is my build of a M977 HEMTT, this will be the one that I was assigned in Friedberg Germany in 2001. Almost from the beginning, I had some problems with the model, there are lots of seams and pin marks to sand down. I got this model off of Ebay, was supposed to be complete, and so far the Fuel Tank is missing. Luckily only the fuel tank is missing, but there are some mistakes Italeri made, see project for these mistakes.
