In the 1970 Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Kawasaki revolutionised motorcycle manufacturing and subsequently Grand Prix racing by introducing high performance 2 stroke motorcycles into the mainstream. These engines produced almost twice the power output at half the weight of comparable 4 stroke engines at the time. Kawasaki quickly became the performance enthusiast’s choice for day to day motorcycling. Equally at home on a daily commute or a spirited ride on winding country roads Kawasaki’s so-called Tri Stars, three cylinder power machines drove a major change that modernised what had been a staid and stagnant industry.
