Cruiser Mk.III WIP
Who needs an expensive set of masks when a $5 stencil from the store will do? The wheels click into the 23/32 slot perfectly!
Got the mufflers nice and rusty. They will be almost invisible once the kit is done, so I went wild with weathering, practising some new techniques. I think it turned out well.
All the parts are coming together nicely.
Weathered the camo a bit. I initially expected to stop the chipping here, but looking at it inspired me to do more.
Gloss goat and decals, ready for a wash. The level of weathering is no accident. According to memoirs of Bill Close, the older Cruiser models issued to the BEF were quite badly worn.
Some dust on the tracks. The effect will be reduced a bit after I put on a layer of varnish.
Matte coating with Vallejo Mecha Varnish. Unlike other varnishes I've used, this one hardly took off any of the pigment, so the tank is dustier than I expected.
Last but not least, the glass. And the tank is done!

Thanks! I am making an abandoned tank diorama soon, and the rust experience will come in handy.

The exhaust looks great. what color of paint did you use for the dark area around the upper hull opening?

Is there an Airfix Cruiser Mk.III? I know they make a Crusader Mk.III.
