I also have this Camaro. But the decals are damaged- exactly the decal of the roof. Do you have tip, how can I paint the roof? For example Tamiya clear smoke on (gloss) black? Could it work?

Dominik WeitzerIstvan, i painted some clear parts with tamiya smoke and it worked. but i had always to tape the backside of the part because of the spraydust(?). Layer for layer to get the darkness i wanted. I always painted the inside. it had to dry for a couple days (perhaps more than a week).
Christian painted a roof from a C7 Corvette - inside blue, outside black. perhaps, he shows it here

István SzücsThank you! But the problem is the roof is not made of glass. That's why I thought to paint black under the smoke.

Christian WI took the roof of, made a mold and used clear resin for a replica. Then I was in the position, to paint it like the original.
For the underside I used Revell clear blue and on the top Tamiya smoke. Finally I used "Future" to give it the right glossy shine. I tried some clear cote but that worked not out.

I would go this way with a solid plastic roof:
I think, to paint it black and than smoke will have no effect. I think, it only gives the black a kind of clear cote. Maybe it looks more black.
What I'll try is to paint an iron metallic instead of black and than use more smoke over that. So much that you barely can see the basecolor through it.
It could give you a better effect. I would try this.

Christian WA little step forward. Everything what has to be black is fine and some painting on the chassis.
Next step is to paint the aluminum parts and wet sending the body.

Christian WIt's a long time ago, I laid handy on this sweet little muscle car. Well, it's painted already. Just plain white and awaiting it's final clear cote.

Christian WThe black was not amused of the clear coat. So it decided to get rid of the roof 😄.
Second try will be with 2K clear coat. I'm angry about the second round because the white was perfect. Not a little bit of dust on it.

Christian WGood point. I saw it after painting, that it is more present than on a black chassis. I don't really not know. I guess not. I used a rattle can with an other white than the tins I have. Maybe. I overthink this.

what have you done with the paint now? removed the complete color?

Christian WI removed everything and started new. The base color was strong enough to stay on the plastics. SO I had to sand it smooth. Then the new layer of white. Looks not bad so far. Some spots to lay hands on but not much.
The next step will be the black roof again. Then 2K clear cote.

Christian WYou're right. Before all the painting, I sanded anyway. There was better fitting also with the hood. It is very tight everything.
