Ahh that logo takes me back to 70's childhood soon as I hear it mentioned!
I made loads of them back then, I've got a few vintage kits waiting to be made in my stash, the Barry Sheene RG500 Suzuki is still a huge favourite😉

black box with 3 colored stripes still gives me a woody this day. matchbox has a great sentimental value for me for some reason and today i still build them whenever i find one no matter how crap they might be (and some of their kits were really terrible) but it just doesn't matter. 🙂

Matchbox is what started me off back in the 70's. I still have the remains of quite a few of those kits. None of them are really salvageable. As a 6-7 year old, I found the undercarriage too fiddly, so most of them were built for the stand or hung from the ceiling.

They've moved with me for over 40 years, and now the bits that remain are missing lots of parts, like propellers, missiles, the occasional tailplane etc. They were all put together with the old Humbrol tube of cement so there is quite a lot of cement marks etc.

I have resolved that over time, I will build a high quality version of them in the same scale with a modern retool kit, which will be quite the collection one day. For now, I use the remnants as paint and technique test pieces.

I see you have done the prowler, which in my opinion was one of their finest 1/72 kits with a lot more detail than usual. If they'd progressed in that vein, they might have become a serious option for the adult modeller, were it not for the financial troubles of the parent company.

I have a Matchbox Voodoo in the stash to build, but otherwise, I don't plan on getting any more actual Matchbox kits, ebay prices are generally way more than the equivalent high detail and fit alternatives

Great models for the early formative modeller! Also seemed to release less 'mainline' subjects - I can almost forgive them the multiple coloured plastic sprues and thick transparancies! Remembered with much affection (and a few in 'deep stash' too!). And of course, some of the moulds continue in use (Revell) 👍 🙂

I'm a sucker for the old catalogues, it's like bible class!
I got all the diecast catalogues from early 60's to early 80's, Tamiya catalogues, Monogram catalogues,
Dangerous though........... often leads to an eBay frenzy 😉

The catalogues contained the dreams and aspirations of many a young modeller/collector, myself included (in my day they were carved on tablets! 🙂 ). And so many thrown away (usually at parents insistence to 'tidy up')....yikes, I feel a 'wibble-wobble' moment coming on.....

@All, I started in the 70's and so only kits I could lay my hands on were Revell, Airfix and some Heller stuff. And the quality was mostly bad. Matchbox improved the situation quite a bit in the "low price segment". But my stockist had a lousy quantity to choose from...

I'm surprised those old catalogs aren't available scanned online (I've looked). The Tamiya catalogs in particular were great reference material, their online catalog is a poor substitute.
