I am really keen to see how this turns out Ed, as I have never really found an other Phantom that matched the Hasegawa "Viet Nam" version, But I am looking to do the Phantom in the Australian markings. (We had a Sqn of them while waiting for our F-111's. 🙂

Yes, I know. I have an ESCI/Ertl 1/72 F-4E/F that has markings for an Aussie bird. Sort of leaning toward those markings when I get to it. Not sure though.

I remember them at an airshow in Richmond. As I was only a little fellow it scared me enough to start crying when it flew over.

I reckon the F-111's sounded even better than the Phantoms, as they made a sound like the air was being torn apart. Not a loud noise, but it certainly was a sound I have never heard any other jet fighter make. I loved it.
And I was always amazed to know they made it back to Amberley safe after making their low level runs just above the waves past the Gold Coast after their bombing practice at Evans Heads, about 100 yards off the beach, and how no 'bird strike' never happened was amazing.

Nothing howls like a pair of J-79s at lower power settings. @ Kerry I have a bloody Air Force of Revell Phantoms. I just buy aftermarket decal sheets. The kit is very inexpensive. As is their Tomcat both the "A" and "D". If my receleation is correct the Monogram/Revell phantoms are the old Hasegawa kit before Hasegawa went to recessed surface details. I use Hasegawa PE in them all the time. Good luck with the build Ed.

Just got this kit along with some True Detail MB Mk7 seats to liven it up a little. Was contemplating rescribing the panel lines, but based on how I was able to pin wash and post shade the Revell 1/48 F-105 panel lines with Flory's and Tamiya Westhering Master pastels, I'm just gonna use the same recipe. Anyone notice any major fit issues?

In recent times, Monogram have cleaned up their dies and 'trued' the surfaces that has eliminate a lot of 'flash', so I would expect that as Monogram don't really have any 'fit' issues, well not as bad as Academy. ;-/
You should get a great result. 👍 🙂
