Ingmar StöhrThx. Only some water. Just had a first go at it. Came out quiet nice. But I think I'll give it a second try. This time sticking to some reference pictures on waves and wake. I'll post some pictures....

But somehow I screwed it up. The angles are wrong and the foam on 2nd and 3rd wave looks wrong. In my next attempt I'll try to stick to a picture I found...

Christian BruerColor of water etc. looks quite nice. The wakes, as you have mentioned are not correct (2nd try). The Steelnavy link is interesting and informative. One important note, take a look to the real thing.

From my point of view, color clossy surface of your 2nd try and wave layout of your 1st try, that should be ok.

I think I won't try to reproduce the complete wave pattern. Calm, flat sea with just little waves and then some white foam according to both pictures. Thx for the support!

Ingmar StöhrThx. Rigging was done with stretched sprue. It was the first time I tried it. It worked surprisingly well. The ability to tighten the rigging with a little heat is really cool. Nevertheless it cost me some nerves - but mainly because of the super glue sticking in the wrong places. 🙂

And by the way, I used Rigg That Thing on my HMS Montgomery. It worked very well and better than streched sprue from my point of view. It is flexible and easy to work with.

Ingmar StöhrSo, finally done with the 3rd try for a convincing water surface. Actually I made 3 more test pieces in between. I used a technique based on aluminium foil and plaster (ipmsstockholm.org/ma..g_tech_sea_water.htm). I modified it a bit to get softer waves. Bow wave is from epoxy putty. I'm quiet happy with the result. Still not 100% the look I tried to achieve, but close enough. I'll practice my water making skills on my next 1/700 waterline kit. Thx for all the support and input!

Christian BruerHey Ingmar, the result is very nice indeed. I like the water color and the moderate waves. All comes together very convincing to me!
By the way, ship waves is not my main skill and I tried it in different ways. You'll find some tests etc. here.

@Christian: I have to follow your build more closely! I like your Approach to dynamic "seascapes". After this distraction I'll have to focus my shipbuilding time on my Prinz Eugen. She has been waiting untouched on the bench for over half an year.

I started this kit back around the year 2000. It was sitting half build in my old room in my parents home for the last 15 years. Now I decided it would be a great project for the holidays. I decided against the old decals and used a PE set from GMM. Eventually the build was finished after 3 to 4 days of intensive work. What a good feeling 😉
