Leopard 1 A1A1 - My "029"
Sometime between 1982 and 84

This model shall become my good old "029". We called the tanks by the last 3 digits of their licence plate numbers. I was Bundeswehr tank commander of 029 at 4./Pz.Btl.63 in Arolsen (now Bad Arolsen) in Northern Hesse. Unfortunately I have only 1 photo..., but I still remember that for about 1-2 weeks I had painted a white Playboy bunny on the searchlight bin until... our platoon leader captain Löffler discovered it and ordered a soldier to paint it over. I will try to finish the model with the bunny.

Hi Frank, nice plan. Looks like that is a 2nd. batch production. Are you sure that your pltn leader was a captain? This is rather unusual since back in the 80s sometimes even the CO was a 1st lieutenant. Especially at the time he took over the command.

Somehow the 'green' uniform was cooler than todays 'Flecktarn'. I was a maintenance mechanic back then with 2./InstBtl 6. We called the black berets 'Oelmuetze' or 'Kettenpolster' - ours were red, of course. 😉

Thanks, Jürgen! I'll try my best. Mmh, second batch? To be honest... no idea! At that time we didn't care about it. It was said that it is an Leopard 1 A1A1. It had already the round shaped inter phone box (Aussenbordsprechanlage).

What is for sure, that our platoon leader was a "Hauptmann" (three silver starts on the shoulder badge). I translated this to captain.

If the intercom box on the rear was round, it should be a 2nd batch. There are no lifting eyes - which were introduced with the 3rd batch - visible. Maybe you could make a small step to the right?😉
I used to be the leader of a maintenance group for Leopard 1 in MITTENWALD. We were responsible for the maintenance of the GebPzBtl 8 and the GebPzAufklBtl 8.
I really love this AFV.

Hi Jürgen, no lifting eye is confirmed, so it must be 2nd batch, but I remember, that we must have quite a mix of batches in our platoon. We also got one Leopard still with the square intercom box, but with add-on armor. And there were also some with different exhaust grills and lifting hooks in front.
