Grumman F-14D Tomcat

Built this for a Group Build on Britmodeller. This was my first try at the "salt weathering" method, used to simulate the characteristic weathering seen on USN aircraft. I also posed the aircraft as seen in a photo after its last airshow appearance, bowing to the crows while the RIO waves a US flag.

This new project is for a Group Build on Britmodeller. My intention is to build pretty much OOB and use the VF-31 scheme as flown on the actual last flight of the Tomcat. This is not the scheme that is shown on the box art. I'll probably use the decals from the Revell F-14D kit. Felix rules!!

Hey Bill, do yourself a favor and take the canopy from Revells 14D, too! It has no seamline and its more correctly shaped, i think! Much fun with this one, i´m gonna watch the build for sure!!!

Hi Holger, the seam is not bad to remove, I can sand it up to 8000 grit, and then polish and Future dip. You are right, the Revell canopy looks to be a better shape from the side (profile view) but the Hasegawa has a better cross section. Tough call. By the way, the Revell F-14D was a bit of a disappointment to me when I bought it. I was expecting a new tool moulding that had quality like their F-4F, Gannet, Eurofighter, Ju-88, etc. Instead, the edges are soft, not crisp, the panel lines are too wide and deep, etc. But I will build it someday, I think it will still build up OK.

I haven't built an F-14 since 1991. But this will be my 25th Tomcat model. I guess I had an obsession when I was younger. 🙂

I have the same obsession! The tomcat is my absolut favour! I builded the 14 so many times and in any scale! I had good experiance with the Revellkit but despite the clearparts, i'm looking forward to build the hasegawa F-14! And i have a lot of verlinden-stuff for my babe😢!
