M1126 Stryker ICV Vignette

Album image #1
Establishing the overall layout of the vehicle and base. As the vehicle is stopping, two of the infantrymen are casually sitting on some stowage atop the troop compartment

Album image #2
For the base, I cut a piece of wood giving me a solid base to work upon. The terrain features are supported by some cheap styrofoam and everything will be framed by some thin styrene sheet for a clean modern look.

Album image #3
Further along now... I did not use al the PE, as much of it would require major surgery and will be covered by stowage items. Also, the kit details are rather nice in places

Album image #4
A more "subtle" piece of soft stowage

Album image #5
Some paint done... I primed everything and will focus on the vehicle first before quickly painting up the base

Album image #6
The permanently attached stowage will be brushpainted. Also, there are going to be some extra highlights on small features like bolts and handles

Album image #7
Wheels were painted using the airbrush and some of the really nice details were highlighted by slightly drybrushing a grey colour.

Album image #8
I have lightened up the overall paintbox by adding more yellow-green to the Tamiya NATO green for a roughly 50:50 mix and concentrated this around individual panels. In addition to this step, acrylic paints were mixed to an even lighter green shade for highlighting bolts, handles, rivets etc. using a fine paintbrush

Album image #9
Shown here are the basic colours on the base. Some stones will be painted individually with acrylics later on and there will of course be the vegetation element to be added.

Album image #10
So far so good... most of the work is done here, though I may add some different vegetation elements as well as some markings on the road

Welcome in, both of you! The figures are from MiG Productions and are really high-quality which should make them a joy to paint later 👍

Hey, cool project!
I´ll follow!
Would you also say that this kit is better than the Stryker that Dragon offers?
Even if it's older, I think the quality of the details is worlds better.
Ps.: nice PE work 😉

Welcome in, Simon 👍 Unfortunately, I am familiar with Dragon´s Stryker only from pictures... for a standard M1126 ICV arguments can be made for either Trumpeter or Academy, although the Academy wheels need replacement. In case you want a M1128 MGS or a Dragoon, just take the 3R kits, as Dragon´s offering appears to be "bulky" in places

The Dragon kits are easy build, but the ones from 3R are really great (except the tires), I hope that their pickups will be available one day 😉
Anyway, good luck!

Good looking base so far!

@Simon: Using plastic sheets for the sides is my first try to bring in a more „sleek" modern look. Currently the sides are masked off for the further painting process, but I am curious how it will look in the end. For non-modern subjects, I will however stick with wooden sides for the base (also painted in black).

You may want to take a look at this:
obi.at/kunststoffbed..m-x-100-cm/p/7687304

I discovered this by chance in the Obi store and it works quite well.
It is stable and can be excellently processed, glueing, cutting, grinding etc.
It's a bit softer than regular plastic sheet, but works really good for making straight sides for bases or even for use in diorama construction- and it's cheap.

If you have the opportunity, I would recommend you to try it.

Thx for the encouraging comments 👍 The project did indeed end up being a lot like what I´ve imagined when starting. Got a place in my new display cabinet right next to the DAK dio I did before 🙂

Album info

Building Academy´s 1/72 M1126 Stryker ICV with quite a bit of extra "bling" in form of PE and resin detail sets including stowaage and wheels. Some figures from Mig Production´s 1/72 US Modern Crew set will give some life to the vehicle. As for the base, I will go with a somewhat beaten up small country road and some low vegetation.
