yes, it is incredible what can be done with this kit out of the box. I have to make an open cockpit in the future build to show it off. This one will be closed again..

Pit looks great 👍 The plan sounds interesting as well, looking forward to see how pre-shading full panels will turn out... I would not dare, would expect to either cover fully or be too cloudy for good measure while trying to let the difference in the base shine through... Which would probably sort of OK since in reality, the BMF MiG´s were pretty inconsistent in the overall finish. Which brings up my final Q - are you sure you want to go chrome? I understand you do not want a full-mirror coat, but these things were far from shiny - not even close to say a WWII Stang in bare metal... The title pic is right on the money - duraluminium, flocked tonal differences and partially even matted...
In any case, following the next steps with interest 🙂

Hey Slavo, thanks for checking in from that spectacular build of yours. The priming base is indeed a step into the unknown but I guess I like to experiment. Also the metal paint I have covers really well so with a base like this I think I will have a lot of control over the tones.
As for the shine, the pics I have in my book of 2707 show a lot more shine than the cover of the project (almost like that 'Stang) but I understand your point and it is definitely something I will be stressing about when building that surface look🙂 I may use some flat base in the end to tone the shine down in some places. From the pictures, it seems that the brighter panels are shinier and the dark ones less so.

Posting results of my Alclad coating efforts. In the end my full panel preshade was toned down to a very subtle effect. I like how the difference in panel color and surface reflection varies depending on the observing angle. From the top, the dark panels are actually quite prominent but against the sun/light the difference is negligible. I have also dimmed the gloss on the darker panels and on the nose with flat base.
I will now continue with some more highlights (the nozzle mainly) and decals.

That panel differentiation looks grand. I tried to have it on my MiG-15, but ended up with much stronger effect.

I can't believe it, I had literally the same idea for painting my Tu-128!! 😄
Thought about this "panel checkerboard preshading" and then thin coats of Metal color. Now I am speechless 😄
Looking good btw 👍 these Eduard kits are such a pleasure to build...

Thank you Lukasz and Alexander. Can't wait to see the results of this technique on your Tu-128 Alex!

Came out really nice, will definitely keep this in mind when I stumble about into a NMF-story... 👍 looking forward to the finale 🙂

Finishing up here and I really love the look. Gonna put it on its own legs today, add the small detail and maybe some varnish work as well to seal some of the decals.

In two days, I managed to put together the cockpit gear wells and nozzle to mask and prepare for painting. plan is to differentiate panels by painting them with either gray or black surfacer, then putting on gloss coat, follow with a thin layer of Alclad Chrome and possibly finishing with AK true metal wax. As the wax and oils/wash do not like each other, I will have to find a way to either put the oils on the wax finish or skip the wax entirely.
