Well the spark plugs got taken out, which sort of messed up the model. Going to finish the build anyway as I really need the experience.

Richard, to answer your quaestion on pic 13: I alway use Vallejo color thinned with water to paint smaller parts with the brush. to keep them longer "fresh" I put them in a box on a paper on a wet sponge.

Thanks, just watching some videos about the wet palette.

Any, I mean any, tips on painting would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Richard, what kind of paint did you use?

Richard
Createx, Wicked colours, Pearl Red. I thinned it at 1to 1 but have to blast it out at about 28psi.

Richard, i am afraid you made the wrong paint choice. Yes, these colours are advertised as "Airbrush colours" but they are more suitable for illustrations and pictures, not for car body finishes. They are semi opaque, this is why you have different shades of this paint on your model. I mean, theoretically you could paint a car (model) with it, but these colours are just not meant for this purpose. In this case you need a good control of your airbrush to get an even coat on the body to avoid darker and lighter spots and you need a glossy clearcote. But you can't get any clearcote you want, you have to make sure it won't affect the base paint.

What i would recommend you: Try to wash this paint off, try alcohol (ethanol). I have never worked with these paints i'm not sure how they ae chemically composed but ethanol should work. If you use other solubles, make sure they do not attack the plastic. For the painting part, get yourself a spray can by Tamiya (TS colours), i would recommend them for beginners. They come in many different colours and you do not need a clearcote. They are pretty easy to handle

Createx paint is an acrylic so I can, and have, washed it off with water and detergent. I have used paint cans and do not like the control I have of them, I prefer my airbrush. The only parts with discolouration are the ones that I did the brush work on, and I think that was because I did not thin it enough. The body of the car itself looks good. On youtube there is another modeler who uses Createx and his results are very good, I suspect he has a lot more practise than me. Createx comes in a variety of colours and styles, from transparent, opaque and a new one called iridescent. I am hoping to buy a better airbrush, I have an Iwata HP-CS, not that it is bad, it actually is very good, but the nozzle cannot accept a .50 needle, which is the one I would need for the Createx Auto-Air paints, which are very cool. The paints go on a primer so I cannot see how they would be affected by the plastic. The clear coat I have used works fine and that is Future

Thanks Adam, I should have been braver and used my airbrush more. I also need to remember to write down the proportion of paints I use in mixes, I had a perfect used muffler look, but cannot recreate it, yet.

Richard, i just wrote from my experience. I've tried several paints and clear coats myself and drew my conclusions. For the last few car models i used the Zero Paints system and i am very pleasd with it. In the end you have to learn from your own experience and trial & error. If you still want to use these Createx paints, do several thin layers, not a thick one and make sure the basecoat is smooth and evenly coloured. Preferably white with no grey patches, you will see them because the paints are somewhat transparent. Concerning Future, it's not really suitable as a clearcote for car models imo. It is too thin. If you want to use it, do several thin layers as well. Concerning paint cans, you probably used "normal" paint cans from the hardware store, yes they have a very thick paint output which is hard to control an not suitable for 1:24 scale. Tamiya spray paints are different! The paint mist is very thin, fine and well controllable! It's up to you, ike i wrote before just try it and learn from it! This is the only way for making progress and getting better results. Cheers

Thanks Alexander, the only real problem is where I brushed on the paint, but this is my third time using this paint on the model and it has been a bit of a learning curve. The car has two coats on it in the pictures and the third coat really made a difference, maybe one more coat. As for the hood, I think I may just strip it down and redo it, both it and the spoiler were done by hand and I am not happy with the result. After messing up the engine, by trying to do spark plug wires, this kit has become a try it kit.

Seriosly, i do not see why you think you messed it up! The engine looks great! As for the spoiler and the hood, you mean you painted it by hand, like with a hair-brush? (no pun intended) 😛 In this case i understand why there is this difference in the shade of the colour. I know it is difficult to fix parts like these for (airbrush) painting, this is why I actually glued the spoiler to the hood before painting when i built this model.

Thank you. Wish I had seen that tip on you tube about gluing on the hood. Yea I messed the engine up, the Porsche name is almost completely sanded off and it is was indented. I found some better reference photos after I had done some of the painting and stuff, so perhaps I am being a little hard on myself, though I did break the belt.
