Mandalorian N-1 Starfighter

Album image #1
Lets start with a box shot. The usual Revell side opener, really wish they'd use top opening boxes so you can keep the sprues in there and get at them easily.

Album image #2
Front engine assembled and primed with Mig Ammo One-Shot Black.

Album image #3
Base coated with Vallejo Metal Color Magnesium, ready to pick out some details.

Album image #4
Windings painted metallic copper, pipes black-grey and the intake fan metallic steel. Drybrushed with the steel colour and some small dabs of Nuln Oil wash for some shadowing.

Album image #5
Cockpit parts primed with One-Shot Grey

Album image #6
Side walls and back sprayed Metal Color Aluminium then used Black-Grey and Green-Brown for the panels and seat back.

Album image #7
Cockpit base sprayed Aluminium and picked out parts with Metal Color Magnesium, Black-Grey and again, Green-Brown for the seat.

Album image #8
Side view of the Cockpit base

Album image #9
Mando himself! Base coated with Dark Brown, details picked out with Metallic Chrome, Black-Grey and a small bit of Yellow on the fingers.

Album image #10
Cockpit dials base coated Black-Grey

Album image #11
Drybrushed with Metallic Steel and Decals added. Buttons picked out with Ferrari Red and Light Sea Blue

Album image #12
Cockpit parts painted, decaled and satin coated. Ready for assembly

Album image #13
Cockpit assembled

Album image #14
Add one Mandalorian (also decaled and satin coated)

Album image #15
On to the engine housings. Primed Gloss Black then sprayed with Metal Color Duraluminum. End parts hand painted with Metal Color Magnesium.

Album image #16
Fitted the engines to the housings

Album image #17
Top fuselage primed Gloss Black then base coated Metal Color Duraluminum.

Album image #18
Top fuselage masked.

Album image #19
Metal Color Magnesium sprayed and the masking removed.

Album image #20
Another bit of masking to give a line around the nose section.

Album image #21
Metallizer powder used on just the nose section to make it look/shine differently to the rest of the fuselage. Did a lovely job of highlighting where the masking tape had been!

Album image #22
Bit more polishing and that looks better.

Album image #23
Grogu painted. Beige for his coat with light brown cuffs and collar, light green for the skin colour. Eyes gloss black primer and the base black grey.

Album image #24
Inside detail parts, base coat Aluminium with some detail picked out in different metallics.

Album image #25
Tail section, Duraluminium and Magnesium

Album image #26
Engine intakes, painted Duraluminium and polished with metallizer.

Album image #27
Engine housings fitted.

Album image #28
All the front engine parts fitted. The 'tails' have their tips painted Magnesium and the middle section only polished up with metallizer.

Album image #29
Starting to fill the desk!

Album image #30
Added the decals to the fuselage using just water. Slightly tricky as I'm avoiding clear coats to keep the metallic finish and metallizer but worked out nicely. Great decals Revell!

Album image #31
Close up of the decal across one of the open areas. They look fine to me.

Album image #32
Canopy masked up and ready for primer and paint.

Album image #33
Canopy painted and masking removed.

Album image #34
Fitted the canopy and the cockpit.

Album image #35
Second, Oh why! Revell logo moulded into the bottom part. Who on earth thought that was a good idea to put that on the outside. If it's really needed then put it somewhere that can't be seen afterwards or affects the painting.

Album image #36
A small bit of sanding and that's much better!

Album image #37
Gloss black primer and Duraluminium Base Coat on the bottom

Album image #38
Masking ahead of spraying the Magnesium parts

Album image #39
Masking removed and all the right colour.

Album image #40
Added the guns and the air intake (!) on the top section

Album image #41
The last bit of assembly on the ship so that's all complete.

Album image #42
Stand has been painted Gloss Black Primer and glued together with Krystal Klear Canopy glue.

Album image #43
All Complete!

Album image #44
Masked off the engine from the 'tail' for a bit of Smoke Oil Paint drybrushing.

Album image #45
Masking removed, nice and dirty 'exhaust'

Album image #46
Same Oil drybrushing on the rear engine.

Album image #47
Starship Filth Oil wash mixed up and used on the Magnesium 'inner' parts to darken them up a bit. And that's this one complete! I'll do a nice 360 against a clean background later.

Beautiful! The execution of the metallic painting and the restrained weathering is perfectly balanced.

Thanks all for the comments and likes.
Jan.. it is a nice kit, very little fit issues the only "problem" I had was with the underside. Apart from Revell moulding their logo into it (which needs sanding off), It's one big part but only has 4 or 5 small contact points to glue it so it needed a bit of tape to keep it flush and a short while to dry. That's the only part that seemed that it could have more and better contact points all the rest were fine.
The decals were really good, I avoided clear coats to keep the metallic finish as it was painted so the decals were applied straight onto the paint with just water and they were fine with no silvering at all as the carrier film is cut nice and close to the decals so they worked out nicely.

LOL! I agree with Jan! I think I Revell should pay Garett for this build - cuz I am now considering this kit as well! πŸ˜€
