Civil aviation is underappreciated in scale modeling, I built a 172 myself and it was fun. So happens it was also a gift for a friend who flew one, hope your friend liked it!

👍 - any comments as to how the build went? In a way, the subjects of VFR Models kits is an answer to many prayers... on the other hand 3D-printed kits are perhaps, well, somewhat demanding. How was your experience?

Thank you for your feedback! 🙂 My experience with the model was quite good, although it does have its problems.
So the cockpit front and rear window is thermoformed, the rest of the sides window clear view parts however printed from a more or less transparent resin, which is not transparent out of the box. This has the disadvantage that it is less clear and the steps that were present due to the SLA print first had to be sanded and then polished to be really transparent.
On the other hand, the main part of the airframe is made of an elastic resin while the rest is printed from "normal" hard resin. This has advantages in treatment, as well as disadvantages. For example, fitting the side windows is not easy, as they do not match the airframe frame 100%. Also, the sanding of the airframe is strange and more difficult than the hard parts due to the elastic material. I also tore a window frame in the process. Otherwise, all parts must be sanded on most surfaces due to the SLA 3d print stages. In addition, I have done a lot of detailing myself using reference photos, since the kit contains only the most necessary parts, but with beautiful rivets. Due to the hard SLA resin, the nose wheel broke off several times. On the whole, I would recommend the kit and the manufacturer VFR, although only for experienced modelers. Unfortunately, I did not take any photos during the building process, because I had to hurry to be ready in time for the wedding.

Thank you for the input, MrMoor! Once again, congrats - and I'm sure the newly-wed friend appreciated the gift!

Album info

I built the Cessna 172 with the registration D-EJRW for one of the pilots for his wedding. The decals were created and printed for it myself.
