Lost all previous pics. This is after hairspray/toothbrush with XF2 and a oil paint pin wash. Need to stipple some white back on overbrushed bits.
![Album image #3 Album image #3](/albums/img/7/0/1/1479701-128829-64-720.jpg)
I'm waiting on some iron polishing powder I ordered, so I'll give that a go. It looks brilliant on Al's tiger.
![Album image #4 Album image #4](/albums/img/4/4/3/1480443-128829-26-720.jpg)
finished off the exhausts with Humbrol rust powder, Vallejo light rust paint and Vallejo rust wash. Also rubbed it with a pencil and dabbed soot from Tamiya set B
![Album image #5 Album image #5](/albums/img/4/4/4/1480444-128829-20-720.jpg)
Added a mix of Humbrol mud, Mig Euro Earth and Vallejo Light Sienna pigments.
![Album image #6 Album image #6](/albums/img/4/3/8/1480438-128829-64-720.jpg)
I tried out Uschi Iron polishing powder on the right exhaust cowl and rubbed it with Tamiya rust B. Not convinced on the result
![Album image #7 Album image #7](/albums/img/4/3/6/1480436-128829-29-720.jpg)
Tracks and front plate had a combo mix of pigments applied and a touch of Vallejo Thick mud. Rusted up the tracks and shackles with Humbrol rust powder. Dry brushed track edges with X-11 and dulled down with a pencil
![Album image #8 Album image #8](/albums/img/4/3/5/1480435-128829-17-720.jpg)
![Album image #9 Album image #9](/albums/img/4/3/7/1480437-128829-72-720.jpg)
Vallejo black wash, a pencil rub and a dab of Vallejo rust wash on the cables. More Thick mud and pigments on the tracks
![Album image #10 Album image #10](/albums/img/4/4/5/1480445-128829-95-720.jpg)
A before shot after white-wash and a light oil pin wash
![Album image #11 Album image #11](/albums/img/4/4/2/1480442-128829-28-720.jpg)
Tried Uschi Iron polishing powder on the manlet applied with VMS enml 2.0 binder. Rubbed with cotton bud, then smeared in some Tamiya rust B.
Not convinced again. Think I could have achieved the same result with a pencil. Maybe I should have dry brushed the powder on, for that mottled effect. Still learning the technique. Your thoughts are very much welcomed on this

More Iron polishing powder and Tamiya B rust. Also the same pigment mix with VMS 2.0 binder. Only just tried this stuff and love it already. So much control with how much dirt applied.
![Album image #13 Album image #13](/albums/img/4/3/9/1480439-128829-23-720.jpg)
More of the same. I havent Clear varnished it yet. Not sure if I've over done it on the mud and rusty metal. Again your thoughts are very much welcomed. I can always rub it off as its been gloss coated over the white-wash.

So the turret is pretty much done, a touch up here and there. Just the body to finish off.

Wow Mr James! The weathering is a master class, my respect! I like pic 14 with this rusty hole on 0, this makes the whole marking extremely realistc. 👍

Well thank you Leszek, how very kind of you to say. As I've said before, I've watched a lot of videos and try to emulate the techniques I see. Weathering is becoming my favourite aspect of modelling so far.

Welcom on board! I too prefer this part of the hobby than counting rivets... Following your projec, I guess it will end with regular winter diorama? 🙂

Yes Leszek, I'm going to build a scene for it. Havent decided what yet. I'll have to master figure painting next though... That will be challenging. :-0

If I may suggest - Ardennes Offensive. I guess Tigers took part in these strugglings too...

Hi Leszek, I dont think I've got the skills for trees. I suppose I could hide them under layers of snow 🙂
I've earmarked a couple of muddy road scenes from WW2 pics.

Cheers for that Gary. I must crack on and finish it before the weather changes and my other hobby kicks in... 🙂

Thanks Guy for saying so.
Neuling, I've cut the base but need some filler or grout or something for the undulations
Thanks for the kind words Pepe. I'm happy with how the turret turned out

Thanks for saying that Fritz. I like to see how other modelers work their magic, so hope it may aid someone maybe? 🙂

This is weathering on another level. I am speechless! I can almost smell the oil/petrol and have a subconscious urge to scape the mud off my shoes. 🙂

Cheers Gary, when I get back from this stint of work, I'll push on with the dio.

I agree with everyone - top notch weathering! The rust effects on the spare treads really stood out for me. how long does it take you to do this level of weathering?

![](/profiles/img/128829-863-s.jpg)
Thanks CaptGPF, The weathering side of modelling is what I look forward to the most. I look at a lot of better modellers work, mostly on this site, and try and copy what they've done. I'm constantly going back over a period of time, adding little touches here and there, so I would say I spend weeks after its painted, decaled, varnished and oil washed.

Doubtingmango, Nathan and J35J, I thankyou for your kind comments. Having recently looked at some excellent winter tiger builds, I do wonder if Ive overdone it a bit.

Fantastic work! I love the weathering. Lifts the good old Tamiya kit to a much higher level. Am I right this is the vehicle in the photos of Wittmann in winter 43/44?
21 November 2023, 08:14
![](/profiles/img/128829-863-s.jpg)
Thanks Gorby, glad you think so.
Yes Neil, I believe Wittman was assigned S04 on the Eastern front in 43/44. Loads of excellent builds of this vehicle out there. I'm now painting the figures for it.... and struggling.
