Looks good Guy. I'm always intimidated by older kits with raised elements. It makes sanding nearly impossible.

Welcome and thank you!
I agree Skywalker, I already have sanded the "join area" of the fuselage and have had to take note of where some of the raised areas were for pre-shading.
Welcome and thank you!

Definitely not, despite my age, I've been on a steep learning curve for the last couple of years (since taking up modelling again) and still with a long way to go!

I have been a professional artist for several decades and I have even restored some priceless paintings but I must confess modeling is one of the most challenging things I have ever done. The learning curve is hard core. I feel like I am back in my old master classes again. Some of the guys here are so good I just sit a stare at their work in awe.

Finally, I declare this one completed. I have attempted more weathering than usual and the mottling is my design rather than anything specific. I'm afraid the carpet monster ate the small antenna on the rear fuselage (just after the cockpit) In my world it has been shot off...
Although the decals are for 2/JG7, on 24 November 1944 they were renamed IV/301 JG. I have read elsewhere that 2/JG7 never actually existed except on paper. The group was composed of a staff and 3 fighter Sqns flying the BF109 G. The Gruppe was disbanded on Mar 19 1945.

I'm slowly trying new things (for me) as demonstrated by yourself and other mates such as Roland & Daniel. One day, I hope to produce something of the standard produced by yourself! Hope you had a good Christmas and let's hope for a much better New Year!
Many thanks Andy

I finally declare this aircraft complete.
Although the instructions state that VB-3 Sqn was on USS Yorktown in April 1945, this is not correct. The Sqn depicted (VB-3) transferred to USS Lexington on 6 Mar 1945 for Hawaii. Therefore, I have decided that this model depicts White 110 of VB-3 Sqn in Feb 1945 when the Sqn was focusing its efforts on providing air support during the run up to the Battle for Iwo Jima.
VB-3 is considered by many to be the premier Navy attack squadron of WWII. It was established in 1934 and chose a leaping or diving panther as its emblem. The Black Panthers were involved in the sinking of Japanese warships at Midway and Guadalcanal. Flying their Helldivers VB-3 took part in attacks on the Japanese in the Philippines, Formosa and the home islands.

Guy, that is a terrific build! Glad you got there and have made a great subject of their kit. I love the backstory. You've also been able to use their SAAF colours too, saving yourself the need to tone them down!

Complete with some light weathering.
This denotes a Beaufighter of 144 Sqn PL O that took part in the raid on Forde Fjord on 9 Feb 1945 known as Black Friday.
This raid was conducted with 31 Beaufighters from 404, 405, 489 & 144 Sqns, all from RAF Dalachy (Dalachy Wing). The 404 & 405 Sqn aircraft were equipped with rockets (for anti-shipping)whilst the other Beaufighters had their cannon and machine guns for their anti-flak role. 65 Sqn Mustangs provided fighter cover.
At Forde Fjord at around 1610 hours, as the Beaufighters attacked shipping and flak guns, 12 FW 190 s attacked. This engagement, with Beaufighters, Mustangs & FW 190s led to dog fights and aircraft attacking ships with around 50 aircraft taking part, the largest aerial battle over Norway during WW2.
The fighting lasted until 1625 hours. The German ships had shot down 7 Beaufighters and the FW 190s had shot down another 2 Beaufighters and a Mustang.
The Allies damaged several German ships and shot down either 4 or 5 FW 190s.
The losses suffered by the Dalachy Wing on 9 Feb were the highest of any of the Wings of Coastal Command sustained in a single operation during WW2.

Messerschmitt BF-109 E-3 completed. No weathering on this one, I decided to leave it as new...
Maj Erich Mix III/JG2 (May 1940 France) 1898-1971
This model denotes the BF 109 E-3 that Major Erich Mix was shot down in on 21 May 1940.
Mix initially flew during WWI and was credited with 3 kills and awarded the Iron Cross 2nd and 1st Class.
Mix was a flying ace in WW2. He became a fighter pilot again in 1937 and from March 1940 commanded III/JG 2 until September 1940. During WW2 he claimed 8 (potentially 13) aerial victories. He attained the rank of Oberst (full Colonel) and was awarded the German Cross of Gold.
Prior to WW2, a Nazi Party member, he was mayor of Wiesbaden from 1937-45. He was mayor of Wiesbaden again from 1954-60 representing the Free Democatic Party.

Finally complete.
Jagdgeschwader 301 (JG 301) was a Luftwaffe fighter-wing of World War II. The order to form JG 301 was issued on 26 September 1943 and formed on 1 October 1943 in Neubiberg with Stab and three Gruppen (groups) as a "Wilde Sau" (wild boar) single-seat night fighter unit.
By April 1945, JG 301 was based around Hagenow, Neustadt and Ludwigslust.

The fuselage was a difficult fit at the front and then when the nose (and propeller) were added, this appeared to force the front of the fuselage apart. Please note that if you wish to have the pilot in your build, ensure you put him in his seat before you glue the fuselage together as he will not fit in through the open cockpit. All in all a nice model to build and an improvement on the old Airfix tool.
Many thanks Andy

To be honest, i don't know the manufacturer at all.
Oldie but goldie? The first pic doesn't look bad for such an old kit.

Welcome wilky & Roland
It's a strange kit with no detail in the cockpit (as you can see) but then other parts can be moved, maybe it was to attract younger modelers? Once complete, I will put it next to the Airfix model for comparisons.

Completed.
I used Techmod decals which are IMO very thin and tear very easily.
This aircraft is based on a A6M2-Model 21 that was based at Konoike in Japan as a part of the 721st Naval Air Group. The 721st (towards the end of WW2) was mainly known for it specializing in Kamikaze missions.
