How much did you pay for yours?

Including shipping $33 on E(vil)Bay. Might have gotten cheaper if I'd bid but this baby is too rare. So I paid the Buy Now price.

I know what you mean. Right now I just enjoy looking in the box. Great looking kit. It is sad that this kit is such a rarity on the market.

I hope some company bought the molds and puts them back in circulation. I'm just glad I got my grubby paws on one of these babies. Of all of the Tristar kits I think this one is the rarest of all and possibly one their finest. Be sure to give a shout when you are about to do work on yours.

Hey Anthony and Hunter 🙂

Yeah, Trumpeter/HobbyBoss aquired the Tristar molds and have officialy announced a while back that they are updating/retooling the Tristar molds and that they are going to start releasing them in the coming months under the HobbyBoss brand.

This was what they posted on their facebook page:

"SURPRISE! We have already finished the upgrading and fixing on some molds of Tristar model kits and you will see them hit the market in the following months. Sharper detail and better fitting. Keep following us to get updated!"

So that'll be good 🙂

I must admit that I never actually even knew that IV/70(A) kit from Tristar existed! It does look like a great kit. Good score, Anthony 👍 🙂

John - I only knew of the IV/70(A) from years ago going to the Tristar website looking for information on one their other kits. I have kept an eye out for it ever since. Its was never sold by any retail distributer that I have seen and its Ebay appearances have been very rare and very expensive. The previous Tristar IV/70's I saw were in excess of $60 without shipping!
I have not built a Tristar kit yet, but from what I have read in reviews the issues of accuracy seem minimal. Also, one huge bonus on the IV/70(A) is the inclusion of a complete set of Tristar grenadiers. I never noticed the depiction of the grenadiers in the online pictures of the box art before and recall nothing about them in the reviews. What a wonderful surprise when I opened the box. It was like second Christmas!

@Fabian: I agree! I think it's great. I'm really looking forward to their releases 🙂

@Hunter: the Tristar figure sets are great! 👍 I have a few of them and they are very well detailed and virtually no fitting issues (aside from the usual, as with any figure set). Well worth the money, I'd say 🙂

@Anthony:
Indeed. It's a very rare kit. I don't think I have seen it anywhere on sale before, hence I was unfamiliar with it. I do know the grenadier figure set (scalemates.com/kits/103091-tristar-35005-panzer-grenadiers). It is also in the Armorama review (in the sprue shots) if you go to the SCM product page of the IV/L70(A) you linked to earlier 🙂
If you were to believe what is said/written by a lot of modelers, Tristar kits would be notorious for their fitting issues. However, I have a feeling that 99% of those fitting issues can be traced back to the modelers competence (or lack thereof)! Tristar kits are not for beginners or modelers in a hurry. If you take your time and carefully plan ahead, they will build without ANY problem.
It is important to make sure all excess plastic from the sprue gates is removed entirely and that you do some thorough dry-fitting before gluing. If you do that, then there will be no need for extensive "remodeling" of parts. Everything will fit like a glove and you will be rewarded with a seriously great looking model!

I would dare to say that the level of detail on Tristar kits is equal or sometimes even better (much better!) compared to the top of line kits from Dragon or other well established top ranking brands. But again, they are plagued by bad reviews of incompetent modelers... which is very unfortunate.

So yeah, I can totally relate to getting that kit, with the little surprise included, being a joy 😄

In my experience DerSockelShop can always be trusted with their information on "to be released" items 👍

Indeed, the date might not be entirely exact but that is not their fault. It is what they hear from the distributor. So the release date might change as it gets closer to actual release 🙂

So yeah, that is absolutely AWESOME!! And look at the price of that kit! Only €36.95 😄 😄 That one is now on my PRIO 1 list😉 Thanks for the link, Fabian! 👍 And thanks for the link for the IV B too, Wayne 👍

I can't tell you how happy I am with the fact that those Tristar kits are being reissued, really! 👍
