Kevin Farrell A "must read" is "Skunkworks" by Ben Rich. Rick took the reins at Lockheed/Skunkworks from Kelly Johnson as Johnson went into semi-retirement. The book is as much about about Skunkworks as it is an insight into the genius of Kelly Johnson.
The book begins with the development of the F-117 Nighthawk. I don't want to spoil it, you need to read it on your own!
J Irwin Hope if it's alright if I jump in with the links below. There's a video on youtube of a presentation on the development of the A-12 Oxcart (and the SR-71). The presentation was held about five years ago at the Smithsonian Natl Air and Space Museum at Dulles. It's about 1h30m, if you have the time.
Among the presenters are people who worked on the development of the A-12, who worked with Kelly Johnson, and who flew the aircraft.
A brief mention of the Russia-titanium connection is at around the 25min mark. They talk a bit longer about how hard it was to work with titanium and explain the corrugation on wing surfaces. Kevin Farrell Thanks Jon! If you haven't read the book, there's a story in the beginning about the development of the -117 (before they figured out a way to make it fly!). They had a 1/4 scale mock-up of the plane in profile (largest exposure to radar). The USMC radar operator was blasting it with a zillion watts and couldn't see it back in the radar shack. He told Ben Rich "Mr Rich, I think the model fell off the stand!" Then he said, "disregard, there it is!" What he saw was a sparrow that landed on the model!

Maciej Bellos Thanks!

The kit makes a very good impression, but the cockpit does not require any additional parts at first sight.
Steffen Arndt Great little kit. Surface looks really nice. Parts break down indicates more versions coming. cockpit is not bad, but I do not like the "PE straps" for the seat belts. I do not use chinese decals as these were crap in the two tries I made in the past.

Steffen Tittmann @ Steffen,
kommt drauf an welche Nation Du bauen willst?

Ronald Beelen Hi, where did you buy it? Still can't find it in my regular webshops.

Jon Bryon I bought it in my LHS. I live in China and because this kit is of interest to the domestic market, it was released in China quite quickly (unlike the MiG-23, which was released four months after it was exported).
