Christian Lehmann I have the same impression. Looks nice in the box. The panellines seem to be a little bit deep but they are very fine. My first Airfix kit after approx.30 years. Something to build out of the box.

Christian Lehmann Does somebody know the difference between the A-4P and A-4Q used by the argentine navy? According to wikipedia the A-4Q has another engine. Can this be seen at the model for example because of another nozzle?
Have there been other differences or could this airfix kit also be used as an A-4Q by using aztec decals?

Bill Gilman Here is an A-4Q made from the new Airfix kit by Redboost (Libor):
I can't find the post where they talked about the different engine nozzle...but I know I read it!
No damage from Sandy, we're up on the shore of Lake Ontario and most of the damage is in New Jersey and NYC. We had several inches of rain and 65 MPH winds though. Lots of branches down and a few trees, but no power loss.

Jamie Anderson not sure on the diffrence i think the P was used by the air force and the Q by the navy but remember the skyhawk was built to as a naval aircraft to begin with

Bill Gilman This page highlights the differences between various Skyhawk marks:
All P marks were remanufactured B airframes. All Q marks were remanufactured C airframes. All of these had Wright J65 engines, but with different versions. I haven't found any specific references about the exhaust, which would be the only visible part of the engine.

Christian Lehmann A collegue of the modelling club told me yesterday that the C (Q) have a longer nose cone than the B (P). The reason should have been the need of space for more avionics.

Bill Gilman This was discussed recently on the Tailhook Topics Blog - some have complained that the Airfix kit is too short, but it's because of the shorter nose. You can check it out here:
Christian Lehmann Thank´s Bill. So the length is correct for a B. The rest is rivet counting at it´s best ( from my point of view) because the kit can clearly been identified as an A-4
Btw: Freightdog offers a kit that includes the A-4C nose cone..

Christian Lehmann This is my intention too. I also built one argentine Super Entendard. You can find pics in my gallery. I am thinking about to build an A-4Q by using this kit. But I am a little bit unsure about the differences. According to Wikipedia it is only the engine which might not be visible on the build model. Do you know more?

Jamie Anderson The skyhawk did have an engine change but but this was for skyhawks A-4E and newer the only changes would be in the color scheme the diffrent variants are from the same A-4B airframe the only possible diffrence on the Q would be an arrestor hook and catapult holders

Bill Gilman Now this is a sweet little kit. Very nice work by Airfix! If they keep this up, the "premium" model companies should be worried!
One thing, though - they need to make the panel lines for the flaps and rudder a bit wider and deeper than the other lines. Overall, the panel lines are just right for this scale, really well done. It gets said all the time, but Airfix really do get better with each new release!

Bill Gilman Agree, it's nice to see each new release from Airfix get better and better. Plus, the prices are quite a new value! This new Skyhawk looks quite nice, I suppose I'll have to add one to my stash! I don't have any early Scooters, so there you go!
