Why do you need courage for building a Buffalo? It's a cool little plane, with a large choice of liveries and place, from the cold of Finland to damp jungle and forgotten islands. And there's even a few what-if scheme to do with Belgian planes or French Aeronavale
And don't forget the best: US Navy Yellow wings scheme!

For the skua, I never fought of changing the canopy . But I don't think it will be enough. There's probably something to change too: the way she sits on the ground. Meaning changing the undercarriage, or the wing, or lengthening the fuselage? Well, let' build another plane from scratch, it would be easier.
And first, why do we try to improve the look of this plane. She is this way ( ugly 😉 )and it's part of the reason I like it. If I want a sleek plane, let's go for a Fulmar...

I have the Hasegawa 239 Buffalo, which I will do in Finnish markings of Juutilainen, and the Special Hobby kits of the F2A-2 (Yellow Wings), F2A-3 (Defender of Midway), and 339B/E (RAAF or RNZAF Far East), and 339C/D (Dutch). I think it will make a nice little collection. The SH kits look like Sword kits, with really shiny smooth plastic. I've not encountered any other SH kit like that.
Buffaloes have a reputation over here as a "widow maker." But Pappy Boyington liked them, at least the early models. Preferred them to the Wildcat, but he didn't care for the later models with reduced performance due to the addition of armor, self-sealing fuel tanks, etc.
A Fulmar is on my wishlist, but will build a Defiant first. The Roc will need company! 🙂
By the way, the Skua kit fits wonderfully. The nicest SH kit I've built so far...
