One source bases his assessment that the kit is "too short by 1,5mm" on a comparison with rescaled 1:96 plans from a Linwright book. Oh, well... 🙂

First I've heard of a scale problem. And besides, 1.5mm on a model that's around 230mm long is not a big error - it's a little more than one half of one percent. If that's the penalty to pay for such detail, sign me up!

The actual GR.4 is 16.72m (16,720mm) long. Divide by 72 and you have 232mm. Divide by 76 and you have 220mm. If the kit's actual error (assuming there is one) is 1.5mm short from true 1:72 scale, then its actual scale is 1:72.5. So if it's short by 1.5mm, then it's NOT 1:76 scale. If it's 1:76 scale, then it's NOT short by 1.5mm, it's short by 12mm. But it can't be both 1.5mm short and 1:76 scale. Pesky math.

The only way to check this is to compare against properly scaled and correct drawings. Many of the drawings that we can download for free contain errors...it's a snake pit.
