Thank you! Your words are a real boost to build more if those fascinating and rather seldom seen kits "out of hell".... :)

Managed to pick up one of these on the cheap on e-bay and looking forward to doing it as part of my twin boom fetish. See you pretty much removed the horrible panel lines. Did you just leave them slightly raised or scribe them?

Thank you for these kind comments! Indeed, Adam, I decided to not completely remove all the raised lines. Most of them have been rescribed, others have just been reduced- that should help to represent the appearance of the real thing more accurate: have a look at an one of those old planes- quite rough textured, actually nothing that could be represented with recessed panel lines only!

Wow Roland, a really great model you show us there, super painted and aged. The thing would surely never have won a design prize ;) but that makes it so specially. Cool, I find the shooters range right behind the middle engine, which surely had really fun at his job :)

good looking plane too

Thanks, mates...I think it goes a long way toward living up to its 'Seedrache' name. I, of course, took liberties with the deep yellow touches.

I'm pleased with the collection as it stands, but I need to tackle some of the early war aircraft, like the Anson, the Stranraer, the Swordfish, and the Gladiator.
31. March 2016, 03:33
Kelly Wellington
Hey... I checked the easy sources and found this on the Seedrache: "Three piston engines were used. The central engine was mounted above the wing, driving a four-blade propeller, while the wing engines were lower, with three-blade propellers." (wiki) But...there is no rationale given for why the difference in the propeller blades. Does anybody here know why?
5. April 2016, 17:13
Choppa Nutta
My guess :)

is....
That the central 4 bladed prop has a smaller diameter...
the middle engine is pylon mounted and the taller the mount is the stronger and thus heavier it needs to be.
A four bladed propeller with a smaller radius could absorb the same power of a 3 bladed prop could with a larger radius.
4 blades are less efficient than 3 hence the outer two engines have 3 bladed props because there is enough room.

I reckon they went with a 4 bladed prop because the designers wanted to use it's smaller diameter to keep the engine pylon as short as possible to reduce weight and drag.... :)

What are the prop diameters ?
I'm gonna guess a 15% /20% difference in size :)

5. April 2016, 20:22
Kelly Wellington
I'd say maybe 10% difference, but distinctly a shorter radius. Between clearing the cabin and fitting between the other two sets of props, plus the challenge of the pylon, it seems that another shorter blade allows the central engine to generate similar thrust to the other two engines with the triple blade props.

Okay...I have not had human figures for several kits now. This one has four. At least. Looking at typical flight gear for the Luftwaffe, it seems my 'deck tan' is about the right shade. Then, of course, all the yellow. Leather goods look to be black.
6. August 2015, 01:45
Kelly Wellington
Ha...Finally. After much dithering. The fuselage is together. The turrets, flightdeck, and gunner are all stationary; I couldn't figure out any other way to do it but cement in place.

Well, this project is drawing to an end. Today I decided I was ready to prep for the decals. This means I'll actually have to select a set.

Hi Roger,
Does this kit really come in an Italeri box? Does it say Italeri somewhere on the box?
26. May 2012, 20:15
Roger Trewenack
Hi Burkhard,
In the instructions it say that it's distributed by Italeri, and the only web sites referred to are: www.italeri.com & www.lacasaitaleri.com
At the back of the manual in umpteen languages, all pointing to Italeri.
If you do a web search of "italeri supermodel" you can see that Supermodel must be a range of italeri.
But no, it doesn't say Italeri on the box, except on the back where web sites & warranties are mentioned.

Burkhard D
Thanks!
27. May 2012, 08:24

Just raises the question whether this should rather be labeled as a re-release under the Supermodel brand. Italeri is the owner of the trademark, like Humbrol is/was for Heller or Lesney for Matchbox.
27. May 2012, 08:47
scalemates
we already have this one in the database... Blohm und Voss Bv 138 (Supermodel 10-017, 1:72) ... under Supermodel label, which is fine!.. so the above one is a double entry (Supermodel box as Italeri Label)

Is this a re-box of someone else's kit, or a new tool from Revell? Very intriguing and unusual subject!

Tim Vereecke
rebox of "Supermodell" as far as I know
13. November 2011, 20:05

Tim is right, this is out of the 'old' Supermodel mold from Italy. But the Revell rebox has much better decals :)
13. November 2011, 21:26
Bill Gilman
I'm not familiar with "Supermodell" - how nice is the kit? Recessed panel lines, crisp moulding, nice details, etc. I assume this is a "small run" production similar to Special Hobby?

For a 1970s kit it isn't bad, but it's lacking detail in the rear turret if I remember correctly. Squadron and/or Falcon made vac canopies for it.

Thanks - looks like yet another kit I have to add to my wishlist! :)
