Kurt Fankhauser Roland, Thanks for these pictures. I'm thinking about getting this kit. You said the canopy didn't fit? Did you carve down the cockpit structure to get it to sit properly? Also, you mentioned you made the tail hook assembly out of brass tubing. I would have liked to have seen more of that detail. You did a great job!
26. October 2019, 17:41
Roland Sachsenhofer Hello Kurt, thank you very much for your words!
This kit actually has its pitfalls and resulted in one of the most elaborate but also most satisfying projects I have had on the workbench so far.
The much too large cockpit frame was actually just cut and sanded down. This was a very unpleasant job on the semi-finished fuselage - at least I would do it myself on the unassembled kit parts if I were you.
In the gallery you can see pictures 8 (for the badly fitting cockpit hood) and 25 concerning the rebuilding of the V-shaped safety hook.
If you get this kit an exciting project is waiting for you. I wish you much joy and good luck!

Stephan Ryll Outstanding job Roland! That's a hell of a job that turned into real beauties

Alexander G. Unbelievable Roland, kocking them out like a conveyor belt....Henry Ford would be proud!
4. September 2017, 18:42
Roland Sachsenhofer Jens, Dave,Choppa, Stephen, Alexander, thank you very much for your very kind words and motivating comments! Dave, firecracker is disarmed and reserved for another candidate. :)
Jens, vielleicht erbarmt sich ja einmal jemand und bringt eine wunderschöne Roc raus- TRumpeter hielte ich da für einen Kandidaten! :)
4. September 2017, 20:14
Choppa Nutta I didn't realise this model was complete because of the out of date teaser ;)
4. September 2017, 20:26
Jens jooo Trumpeter wäre eine Adresse , ICM könnte da aber locker mitspielen ;)
4. September 2017, 22:04
Bart Goesaert Glad you finished this one, nice and obscure model. The filigrane construction of the bombrack sure looks very nice
5. September 2017, 04:16
Roland Sachsenhofer Thank you all mates! Indeed, ICM maybe a candidate! The bomb rack was a
fairly easy arranged and bent bunch of etched parts- but its really looking good

Lionel Marco About what?
Stashing too many of not-so-easy kits of strangely-looking plane?
Don't you buy the skua a few days ago?

Lionel
Same disease, same planes, just another scale!
24. January 2014, 11:34
Bill Gilman LOL - yes, I did buy the Skua a few days ago. And I'm proud of it! Really, if you were to put a nice bubble canopy on the Skua it would look rather sleek. As it is, with that square canopy, it looks like a greenhouse on top of a bus!
PS. I also just bought a bunch of Brewster Buffaloes. Now that takes courage!
25. January 2014, 00:46
Lionel Marco Why do you need courage for building a Buffalo? It's a cool little plane, with a large choice of liveries and place, from the cold of Finland to damp jungle and forgotten islands. And there's even a few what-if scheme to do with Belgian planes or French Aeronavale
And don't forget the best: US Navy Yellow wings scheme!

For the skua, I never fought of changing the canopy . But I don't think it will be enough. There's probably something to change too: the way she sits on the ground. Meaning changing the undercarriage, or the wing, or lengthening the fuselage? Well, let' build another plane from scratch, it would be easier.
And first, why do we try to improve the look of this plane. She is this way ( ugly ;) )and it's part of the reason I like it. If I want a sleek plane, let's go for a Fulmar...
25. January 2014, 06:12
Bill Gilman I have the Hasegawa 239 Buffalo, which I will do in Finnish markings of Juutilainen, and the Special Hobby kits of the F2A-2 (Yellow Wings), F2A-3 (Defender of Midway), and 339B/E (RAAF or RNZAF Far East), and 339C/D (Dutch). I think it will make a nice little collection. The SH kits look like Sword kits, with really shiny smooth plastic. I've not encountered any other SH kit like that.
Buffaloes have a reputation over here as a "widow maker." But Pappy Boyington liked them, at least the early models. Preferred them to the Wildcat, but he didn't care for the later models with reduced performance due to the addition of armor, self-sealing fuel tanks, etc.
A Fulmar is on my wishlist, but will build a Defiant first. The Roc will need company! :)
By the way, the Skua kit fits wonderfully. The nicest SH kit I've built so far...
