I screwed it up right out of the gate! My eye for detail wasn't minute enough and I missed that the cowling they used for this car had a smaller to no duct/vent between the number plate and Heuer markings which made EVERYTHING a centimeter higher than it should be and this affects everything all the way to the back of the cowl. Bugger. Press on regardless...

Niki or Clay???
3. September 2013, 06:29

I have not decided yet. But as i have a lot of posibilties to build a Lauda car This one will be a Regazzoni car i think.
3. September 2013, 16:04
Steve Wilson
Good choice
3. September 2013, 18:33
Kars Jans
You seem to like Regazzoni more than Lauda? Are you willing to share this info with me? Any special reason? I must say in the past i liked Lauda, especially after his accident at the Nurburgbring. I had great admiration for the guy to step in a F1 car again. But names as Regazzoni or Reutemann or Pironi or Tambay will surely shine on my models.
4. September 2013, 05:12
Steve Wilson
Yes I do have a soft spot for Regga...
But I like Niki no more or no less, after all he was the Champion. Also as you say, his accident was particularly vicious and back in the cockpit after only missing about 2 or 3 races.
I met Clay several times in my career as a Coach Driver, we got on well and he always remembered me, by name as well as face... That impressed me, so I tended to swing more in his favour

Today marks the 43rd anniversary of the death of one, if not the fastest drivers to sit in a racing car, Jochen Rindt. I saw him for the first time 2 weeks before in the paddock at Oulton Park. At that Gold Cup meeting were the current world champion Jackie Stewart, former world champions , Graham Hill and John Surtees and the current leader of the world championship Jochen Rindt. Tell that to the kids theses days and they won't believe you. This weekend marks Clay Reggazoni's first Grand Prix win at Monza. When he came steaming out if the parabolica on lap 54 having broken the tow there was an almighty cheer that followed him around the circuit. Sitting in the main stand on the start line I could tell when he was coming down the back straight to the parabolica just by the cheering.

Kars Jans
Steve, ok, it's clear to me now. Must have been great to meet these guys. I only met some dutch drivers. For me that was also great. So i can imagine.
John, also a great story. Those were the names. For some reason i tend more to the racing guys of these years. The 60's and 70's are somewhat moagic to me. I do not know why. I own a pretty bunch of old F1 movies, and it's always great to have a look at drivers racing off the circuit, going through the cornfield, back on track, and start over again. It always makes me smile.

Thanks Kars...
John is right, I loved Motor Racing during the 50's 60's and 70's. As a toddler in the 50's my dad's friend raced Jaguar XK120's 40's & 50's, I went to race meetings with him, in 1955 he took me to the Monaco GP and my love affair with Ferrari & F1 started... During the following thirty years I went to as many races as possible. The pit lane then was great, especially for me, I met so many drivers during that time, I would get as close to the Ferrari garage as possible with camera ready. I'd stay there until they closed the pit lane, talking to the Mechanics, as well as anybody who fancied a chat. Yes John! tell that to Kids today, they just think your bragging...
The Pit Lane these day's... GBP £2000.00 or more to get in, if your lucky.

it's a drug. once you tasted it your hooked :) when i take a walk in the city i'm constantly being reminded of models. doesn't matter if its a boat, car, bike. my brain automatically want to know if it's available as a model :) but now i haven't built anything for 2 months since everything is packed in boxes around the house due to a splendid idea that i should redo my man cave witch i don't have time to complete.

I agree it is a drug, but it depends on where in your life you took it up, as to how addictive it is. I was six, I've had just over a year off, I'm back due to serious withdrawl symptons :O
It's interesting Alex, I also am reminded of models in all walks of life, walking, shopping, TV, museums, holidays. I see all different types of Vehicles, Planes, Boats/Ships and Trains, also picturesque views, buildings, trees, even People, I think is it possible to model that. It makes all types of ideas buzz around inside my head, dioramas, scenes anything...

The funny thing is that i'm not really sure if i like modeling or not. i think i'm just doing it as a substitute for the real deal which is too expensive. and since i'm already reading about motorsport and cars every day why not build a little car as well. painting and cementing parts together is quite boring to be honest :/ it's the research and the history i like. the finished model on the shelf is just a bonus :)
