I spent an hour and a half priming and sanding the engines when a friend pointed out that the flown F-1s had a heat insulating layer on them...

So, five minutes with aluminium foil instead.

Yeah, the fit and finish is so-so.

It did turn out reasonably well, but I have to say it again, this is not a good kit. The fit is bad, details are lacking and the instructions are just wrong in several places.

Btw, I think the popular consensus, is that the paint guide is wrong in making the lowest black parts to too high up. Afaik, the corrugated plating should be white, and not black as per paintinstructions (the one I found uploaded to Scalemates anyway).

I also noticed looking at a photo, that the four fins at the bottom, have a stub or flat end, not like the typical airfoil, presumably to be sturdy. So thin at the leading edge, and just flat and wide at the end.

I recently ordered two Airfix Saturn V kits, and I'll give one away to somebody I know.

I like your alu foil solution on the five main thrusters. 🙂
