OB project. Some positive reviews around this kit. I am using the expert set, nice to have all the PE add ons BUT... I am starting to be annoyed by the poor fit of the cockpit once all is completed. Besides, the instructions are not clear and tend to present the same views with parts already assembled. All this is really unacceptable and people at Arma Hobby should realise that their boxes are never underpriced so some quality should be expected... I anticipate a lot of cuts and sanding inside the nicely engraved cockpit, with the result that only partial particulars will be visible anyway. This first shot documents the necessary cuts in the internal frame...
I am much surprised, Fernando, frankly speaking. I have started the same kit and had no issues with installing the cockpit... Nevertheless, I do agree with you with respect to instructions, cleaning and installing the undercarriage legs as proposed is a bit strange - I simply filed groves, as you did 😉
Tx for following Robert. 🙂 Maybe I was stressed by the fact that the nice internal pylons simply did not fit with PE refined seat with the result that I had to cut the plastic after they were glued to the cockpit. I was not expecting that and I usually do not make this errors when assembling the whole thing. I have recently bought the IBG Pzl 11 (Rumanian version) and I don't foresee the same problems.

Starting from the very poor Eastern Express kit, adding the various external parts available at the time. The internal open cockpit was completely scratch built from my sources. The colours were from the VVS faithful Akan range, but rather difficult to airbrush... The powerful M-71 engine was "simulated' from the resin P&W 2800 (Pavla) since the number of cylinders was the same... First time I was fitting an engine in a kit... But I think it was worth it!
Nice result and detalisation for so difficult model.
Very, very nice! A clean assembly of the kit itself is an achievement…
Very nice and unusual model. Well done!
Thank you so much! Took me almost a year to complete with many stops and goes... Sometimes I choose a subject and then I want to improve it to the point that it takes so much effort... I still have to find the right thinner for the awkward Akan colours. They are acrylic but they clog the airbrush even with the Liquitex retarder. Any advice is welcome!
What series of Akan's paints do you use? 6, 7 or 8?
The AMT-7 blue for the underside is no. 73002. Also the other bottles start with a 7 so I guess is series 7?
Yes. If first digit is "7" - 7 Series.
I don't use this difficult paint, but my friends do. They use Tamiya X20A + a bit of Tamiya's retarder.
Tx Alex. I will try this mix. I bought the set from Hong Kong (!) because they offered the specific tints of the VVS and they claimed the accuracy based on historical research. Then I discovered how difficult they are to apply... 🙁
That's true, Fernando.
