Timeframe: 1991-1993
Armor battalions of the 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized) operated the M1A1 Abrams main battle tank (MBT). Although 4th Infantry did not deploy for Operation Desert Storm, the armor was nonetheless painted desert sand in case rapid deployment became necessary. M1A1 Abrams were frequently operated on the Fort Carson reservation and the Piñon Canyon Maneuver Site for exercises.
