M M @bozzer the link is dead for me. Post up the photos of the kit. According to SM its 1989 vintage. Looking at some of the other folks that built it up it almost looks identical to the Fujimi mold, I wonder if Fujimi just bought the molds from Revell? Anyways here is a link for your Guardsman Blue GT. First photo and scroll down you can see Andretti some ways down.

@Robert! YES! I want to see that movie. If you haven't seen this documentary that the movie I think it going to be based on its worth it! I loved it. https://amazon.com/24-Hour-W..955&s=gateway&sr=8-1

For those not in the US its called "The 24 Hour War"

Chris Greathouse Watching 24 hour war :D Thanks! (needed a few hours break between clear coats)

Bozzer The link relates to an article by Harry Kennison. He was a photographer, back in the day, and it tells of his experience at Sebring. Man, that story had me glued to the screen! Try to Google it, I'm sorry that the link didn't work for you, it's the only one I have, I think?
6. May at 21:44:44
Bozzer Yep, sorry guys, that's the only link.
6. May at 21:48:09
Bozzer Failing that, try Dan Gurney. 12 hours of endurance at Sebring. Man, that's gotta be the best story I've read in a long time!

M M Started this last week or so. I have been working only a few hours at a time on it. 1:72 is small *eyes wide open*. I decided to try PE for the first time. I love the way it looks. The cockpit will definitely be a highlight for me.

M M My kids asked for some airplanes to hang from their ceiling. I couldn't justify spending more than $20 on a new kit so I went to a kit swap and picked up some old kits for $6/each. It took me about a week to finish this first one. I let my oldest put it together and I did all the paint work. First time trying "molted" camo. I need some work lol. I was really surprised at how well the 19 year old decals held up... Better than Fujimi *eyeroll* This is why there hasn't been much GT40 work. The GT40 is back on the front burner now.

M M Thanks Robert. I wanna wait for the paint to finish drying and will try that
20. January at 02:52:04
M M Photo update. I had been quietly working on detail paint and this morning after breakfast we put some parts together. I still have to detail up the steering wheel before the cockpit is finished and then work on the front suspension and the brakes and all of the dress up painting will be finished. I am slowly working on the exterior. There are a lot of decals I have to put on and I had an issue with overspray. Robert, I tried the thinner, it was too slow on the TS paints so I used 92% Rubbing alcohol, this seems to do the trick but it takes a lot of elbow grease. I found some decals on the engine I was missing so I put those on and then the kids got to work. My youngest son was interested but for just a minute. He installed the pedals. He is only 3 after all. The oldest was there with me the whole time. There were a few parts where I had to get the parts to snap together but he was on the rest of it. I would say this is turning out to be pretty nice! If I can recover the outside of the frame I will be really happy.

I really like the way the underside turned out. I laid down some flat aluminum and then chrome over it to get the nice color. I also used a little panel line paint on the underside of the A-arms. I imagine this will be finished in the coming weekends.
20. January at 17:24:31
M M Started another project while finishing this one up. Album to follow shortly. While my primer on the other car was drying I knocked out some detail paint on brakes and rotors. I put in all the intake covers and glued them in. I also touched up the steering wheel. I have to throw down some decals and then put on the clear. Then just wait for my kids to get home so they can finish putting it together. It's really starting to look good with all the tidbits on the body. The only "hard" part I am going to run into is clear coating the back "bumper" with out flooding it. I don't think i should install it before I clear the body because there are a few crevices that won't get clear.

Tom Got'a keep the pipeline going!
28. January at 16:24:01
M M I got the decals laid and the clear coat on. I used the Microscale Industries products to get them to lay down nice. I think i put down at least 25+ and that wasn't all of them. The 1:1 car that I am modeling it on didn't have the "Gulf" logos on there so I left them off. Then after three coats of Tamiya TS-13 she is waiting to cure. I did spy two little dust motes so it will get a light sanding and polishing once it's cured. When my little ones get home I will have them put it all together and then take photos for our reveal.

Getting ready to start this one. I am on the road so I am getting some research in order. Anyone else notice that the instructions show the dash for GT40 P/1075 (1967/68 winner) as oppose to P/1046? Anyone build this model recently? How did you fix the dash? When I get home I plan on cracking this one open and actually looking at the included dash. I will be a little disappointed if its the 1075 dash :-/

James C You've done bloody well mate! and far better than my 1st attempt at armour ;)
8. March at 02:01:48
M M Thanks for all the kind words guy. James, I really admire your work so thank you. Now I need to decide if I should put together another inexpensive kit for practice or raise the bar a bit on something a little more pricey.
8. March at 04:16:42
Carlos Cisneros A great starter kit for armor builds. You did quite well with it!
8. March at 04:29:21
Chris Greathouse Improve with cheap kits, then bump up the quality once you get technique better.
8. March at 04:30:00
James C Yup, a couple cheap Tamiya's under your belt is a good stepping off point to the more expensive and complex Trumpeter & Mengs ;)

M M First time airbrushing. I didn't want to just learn to spray on a bottle or such so i bought a $5 kit from the LHS. OMG I wish I had one sooner! Going to do a test on a body next.

Because I am crazy and OCD I decided to do some weathering as well. Battle damage. Busted fender. Soot, dust, and mud. I love it. I think I might make a little diorama for it.
19. February at 18:14:43
Olivier Bitten by the airbrush bug, are we ?
19. February at 18:27:01
M M :) yes! It's so smooth. And it doesn't flood the little details like a rattle can.
19. February at 18:28:24
Olivier I tried once but then went back to brushes. Will have to be more persistent...
19. February at 18:31:30
Chris Greathouse Wow.... Insane small, looks good :D
19. February at 18:33:47
M M Thanks Chris! It was so much fun and for 5 bucks if I cocked it up I wasn't going to cry.

Olivier, really it makes a difference on covering large areas. I really enjoy brush painting but couldn't find a good thinner to paint ratio to not get brush strokes on large areas. This for me is worth it.

If you want to see a better build description with photos that are oriented correctly here is the link to my build.
