The M12 was a stop gap until the M40 was able to be deployed, it is build on the M3 Chassis whereas the M40 is build on the M4 Chassis. There were not a lot of em produced, but despite that they seemed to perform admirably, and where used til the end of the war. This model and the decals and name caught my eye so I picked it up from Squadron long ago, while I was in Iraq. It is a good kit and I would recommend it to build.
