O wow, my first car was a 1968 Beetle !!!
If I remember rightly even one of the wings was the colour of yours, or at least close to it 😄

Mine was a 1200cc with a 6 volt battery, no fuel gauge and a doorbell for a starter button !!
....... and aged 18 I drove it like I stole it !!

the number of times I had to push start that thing !
and the number I ran out of fuel ..... although one I had just enough momentum to roll up to a fuel pump
haha those were the days, had some good times in that beast !! 😄

Last time I saw it was on top of two other cars in the scrap heap ...
..... if only I had known what they would be worth today !!

This is a nice stroy behind your experience! Funny too.
My brother and I have a lot of stories too. Slippering with 360 Degrees turns, 90 Degree sliding while passing another car on the other side of the narrow road. To fast through the curves with one Hand then using two Hands to catch the beetle under Control again *lol*.
Loosing a rear Wheel while entering the main road? Falling from a car jack? Jep. Check. Done.

Running out of fuel? Not with a Beetle - I think. With my Pontiac, yes. So many memories.

Thank you!

Funny you should mention that Christian as I too lost a wheel going round a corner in the Beetle..
as well as a few sideways moments in the snow skidding to a halt inbetween two posts without hitting either of them etc. leaping over humpback bridges at 70mph and wondering why is the car twisting through the air until some one explained about the odd effect the flywheel has on an airbourne Beetle.
among other stories, happy days !! 🙂

thanks!
oh, yes, the memories...i remember our orange Big Beetle with non-working starter...always made a pushstart :-D . Or my Jubilee Bug that broke down on the way to work and i was already late anyway, but he rolled very well down the hill nearly the goal 🙂 .

@choppa nutta ... those stories are so sweet. Thank you for sharing.

@dominik ... right. I forgot about the orange one. That was cool. Still parking at the side at home to roll down the hill for a kick start until we hit the street, which had "rechts vor links"-rule
Now I remember another stroy with my beetle: stopping with blocking front wheels at a pedestrian crossway (or how it's called). I still remember the smiling of the little child at the moment, she looks at the beetle.
Not to forget your convertible. The drama queen. Always a little bitchy on starting. But: theeves weren't able to steal it. That was cool. Loved it. Not the part for getting a new ignition lock. Didn't we knew, that no other lock fit. Only on this 1972 year.

But i Always arrived where i wanted to go (only one fault as the Batterie was empty...not far from home…)
