Watching with interest - the very first completion of what may be the best 109E kit in 72 yet???

thank you! @Neil: I have seen a couple of other SH 109E-4 finished already, but not with the PeilG IV DF... 🙂 This may be not the best 109E kit yet, but to me is the best looking for sure!!! It is not an easy build, in this aspect the best one is the Tamiya offering, but its surface details are astonishing, some of them I discovered only under magnification!!!

Thank you for sharing your experience and opinion of the kit Andrea. Fit and buildability is what I wanted to hear about so I'm grateful! The surfaces look great but as we all know, that's not worth much if lots of filling and sanding is needed. I do hope you tell us all more about this when you've comepletd the kit. Looking like it'll be soon... 🙂

Hi Neil, you will need no filler with this kit, just lots of dry fittings because the engineering of the parts is so tight that there is no rooms for paint between them! Only issue I found is the clear parts are a bit wider, may be it is only my fault but next time I will check before joining the half fuselages, maybe inserting a shim on the firewall sides. As I said, Tamiya is a quicker build: this kit is more demanding and if you have built an Eduard's FW 190 in 1:72 you will know what I am talking about!
I have nearly finished the first painting stage now, more pictures soon.
Thanks for your interest!

Thank you very much Andrea. Yes I have built an Eduard FW190F-8 and have an Eduard Bf110G-4 on the bench so I know exactly what you mean. Tight tolerances I'm happy with, loose tolerances may suit some builders but I prefer precision. I think you've convinced me I will like this kit. Really looking forward to seeing how those beautiful surfaces look under some paint. 🙂

Looks great Andrea! Like how you've colour matched the buff shade on the fuselage - don't know what colour it actually was, but not RLM65 for sure! (Mind you the latest research I've seen shows a 1941 variant of 65 which looks quite a bit like this)...?

thanks Neil! I read that the shade could be a test for the new underside color, RLM76, or a kind of field mixed shade.
What is evident to me is that the fuselage has been recently repainted while the wings, or at least the belly, are in RLM65.
My model is not 100% accurate and I know this, but I always liked that original color pictures and I think it is a good scheme for the new SH Emil

Totally agree Andrea, I guess there are a number of possibilities what that colour actually is, but the colour photos clearly show the 65 on the lower fuseslage and wings, so top marks not just for a great model, but your forensic photo interpretation too! 🙂

Interesting 109 Andrea! The colour scheme is quite unique and the Peil IV antenne I only knew from early nachtjagers! Great work!!

thanks Erik! While surfing the web for this build, I discovered there are more day fighters with PeilG: an E-7 trop white 12 JG 27 , an E-3(?) double chevron JG 52 (decals for this in the AML conversion too), an E-7 black 16 JG 1 plus the two night fighter G9+JV and GV...

G9+JV is on my "to do" list to build! Have reserved the Eduard 1/48 and the Owl conversion reserved for this 🙂
