OK, because I have ADD, another side quest. My IPMS chapter has an annual Christmas. The theme for the meetings contest is build the same subject. For aircraft it is Spitfires, meh. Armor is some tank or other. The stock cars. And the fourth category, Sci Fi, is any version of the Enterprise. Wellll, THAT I am into! LOL But, I waited too long. So I had to find one in the stash that should be easy. I came up with this one. 🙂

Now, I did not know it was a snap together. Didnt say that on the box. But fine, less I have to screw with. LOL It goes together OK. A few modifications here and there and some putty and sanding to get it to proper model standards. The Botany Bay is insanely easy, though lacking in good details. But thats done.

Now, you may be wondering why I primed the Enterprise in olive drab. Welllll... when the folks at the Air and Space museum refurbished the original studio filming model before putting it on display in the museum, they did an exhaustive analysis of the layers of paint. They went through layer by layer (as it had been repainted many times) to the original color and found that it had a very slight green tinge. The ratio I found was 1 part dark gull gray to 22 or so parts of white with one part of SAC bomber green. Well, I dont have that. And I figured it would work better for me to base with OD then go over it with the white/gray mix and let a bit of the green come through. I feel like I can do a bettr job of controlling the color that way.

we shall see what happens!

Oh, I gotta get it done by the 14th. LOL

Initial coat of uber light gray. Sanding some stuff. A little more body work then another coat.

Well, its done. And wow. Ive had some crappy models, but this one. Granted, as I said, it was originally a snap together toy. But even so, its still awful. And the decals??? Probably in the finals for worst I have dealt with. Hell, I have had 50 year old decals do better than these. Well below what I expect of myself, but it is what it is. Trust me, you cant see the crap spots in the pics. LOL
