And now for some Star Trek Kit Questions...Are there companies or individuals who make light kits for some or all of the Star Trek kits available? I have some like the Klingon IKS kit and the expensive 1/350 Enterprise deluxe kit by polar lights, but I still have alot of kits without any light sets, now I have some by individuals but I still need a lot more for the kits, now the ones I have and are good but still looking for the rest but some of the prices are staggering, any one know some other kit creators out there who are not lookign for hundreds of dollars for light sets? Now I am not looking for audio or effects, just lights to lite up the kit and some of the blinking lights to make it look semi-realistic not over the top outrageous.

Bill Newcomer I suggest you simply learn how to do it yourself from scratch. LEDs in bulk from China are very cheap. The circuits are simple. You can use a 9v battery or a 12vdc power supply. A cheap Harbor Freight multimeter with DC amps capability will help in selecting the right voltage dropping resistor. Most LEDs like about 20ma. You will need some soldering skills to assemble your harness. 25-pair telephone wire is perfect for this dues to the color variety keeping things sorted.
25. January at 22:14:32
JD I agree with Bill. It may not be the answer you're looking for, but you will learn something about basic electronics. Learn what a breadboard is. Lighting models is an art it itself worthy of study. I say that because I want to light up the Ghostbusters Ecto-1a and there's no lighting kit for it...Bill's advice is sound advice! 8)

Mike Weatherbee I do have some knowledge of electronics as I used to build PCs years ago but difference is most of the parts are already made so its just a plug and play proceedure but from the info I have been looking into and from previous lighting kits I have purchased the materials have changed it up a bit, from LEDs with reistors to LEDs with built in resistors and instead of using a circuit board to run blinking, flashing etc LEDS there are now comr with the functions built in. Now Are there sites with info to begin getting the knowledge to build a decent kit, I do liht up my 1/16 scale kits like my 2 1/16 Firebirds one 79 and one 82 and currently working on a 57 T-bird and a 55 Nomad. but these are sorta simple and just running LEDs with a base with couple of buttons to turn off the headlights or a switch to turn on brake lights etc. but I am would need more info on setting all those blinking/flashing ect lights and using 9volt batteries which I always seem to use into one "wiring harness"
26. January at 22:35:50
JD It's all over my head anyways... 8)
26. January at 22:38:15
Munkyslut Just my opinion but I find the LED's too bright.
I use fibre optics instead, saves finding a space for bulbs in small, tight spaces & is perfect for stuff like Dashboard illumination etc.
So cheap to buy too
26. January at 23:03:54
Mike Sleger There are several lighting kits available (Tenacontrols, VoodooFX, etc) but indeed they are pricey for what you actually get (their profit margins must be huge). LEDs are cheap and some even come pre-wired with resistors. You can change the brightness by modifying the resistor value (most LEDs aren't simply on/off and can be ramped - something I take advantage of for a "comet-trail" effect in personally-designed chaser circuits for Knight Rider scanners and Cylon helmets). Also, "warm white" LEDs (faint yellowish hue) often look better than "cool white", depending on the application (i.e. starship windows versus strobe beacons). Simple blinkers with variable on/off ratios can be done with the basic 555 timer chip - just Google "555 timer circuit" and you'll get plenty of research material, even some tutorial videos. Chasers and sequencers involve slightly more advanced chips but are straight-forward to set up. Some people go the extent of programming an Arduino for their build but I haven't taken the time to learn that yet.

Picked up a whole big load of kits for the summer of 2019. think 2019 was a nice haul but hoping 2020 will be even better. Anyone else get kits from Yard Sales, flear markets or other place like this? As always I do not buy pre-started or completed kits but considering the price for them I do sometimes buy some ktis just for parts to upgrade other kits or to use parts to finish others. Anyone else have little secrets on where to get the best deals, except for ebay.

Mike Weatherbee Beautiful, this is great hearing about others going out to search for kits and related items, its not just running to the store for some and I am one of them who enjoys the "hunt" and its good to hear others enjoy it as well as buiding the kits.
My last question is does anyone else have more kits in thier collection than they will ever be able to finish? My wife thinks so but I still add more and more each time I go out.
21. January at 12:40:46
Mike Sleger Not only more than I will probably ever be able to build, but also more than I will probably ever be able to display. (And the wife is not keen on having starships hanging from the ceilings...) I've often wondered how people display all these beautiful builds, as they are larger (especially dioramas) after they're built than the boxed unassembled kits.
21. January at 15:49:45
Danny Meer Last summer had the chance to buy this complete collection for € 1200,- :D

Steven Van Dyck I guess you didn't pack that money to go to the flea market... That Aerodyne I built a long time ago.
21. January at 18:41:07
Danny Meer Nah, normally have a little less cash on me at flea markets :D

Mike Weatherbee Nice haul Danny, lots of good Italieri kits in that lot. And Dave, my wife not keen on that idea as well, she does not want WWII boats, planes and ST Starships and other ones all over the living room , which is why I had to redo my basement to have a place to display my kits and the other items of my collections.

(Sorry...off topic) Actually, I wonder if finds like this indicate that someone has passed...I too have had finds like this, and it makes me wonder...

Mike Weatherbee I do see maany sellers on Ebay claiming the items they are selling are from Estate Sales so that could be a meaning to some.
