Eduard Tempest Mk. V
My first totally resin cockpit. I spent a couple of hours cleaning up all of the parts, and assembling a few minor pieces for painting.
rudder pedals assembled. I think they are on backwards from what the instructions call out, but neither orientation seems to truly resemble the few pictures I have seen. Either way, not a really big deal as these will be almost impossible to see.
working on cutting out the shell ejector ports.
working on the cockpit. The firewall, floor, and right wall are all but done. The rest still need to be weathered and some PE installed. The finishing touch will be a shot of dull and then assembly.
Sanded as much as I could, and it still wouldn't fit. The solution was to push the wheel well inserts outboard just as much as you see here. It won't be noticeable with the gear doors installed. In fact, it will give the gear doors a ledge to be glued on.
Sanding everywhere I can to try to make the wing fit on the fuselage. I even sanded through the bottom of the resin cockpit.
Did some minor scratch building for the radiator. I drilled out the center piece and added the splitter.
Cut out the radiator flap and detailed the back of the radiator (including filling some sink holes).
final test fit before I glue the wings together. I still have a few things to do inside the fuselage before I can button it up but the wings will give me plenty to do in the meantime. I'm going to try to cut out the wing tip lights and create my own out.
I cut out the wing tip formation lights on both sides. Then used some acrylic rod I had lying around. I cut the rod into disks, then into 1/4s, then drilled a hole for the bulb.
Installed the acrylic with thin liquid super-glue.
After about an hour of sanding and polishing. All that is left is to rescribe the panel lines that I sanded down. then, I have to figure out how to mask these tiny things.
I glued it together with super thin CA glue as I had several joints that I needed to put under some stress. Ithe worked wonderfully, but there are a few minor gaps that need to be fixed. I'll end up having to re-scribe a considerable amount.
Allowing the putty to dry. Theven fuse/wing gap isn't as bad as it looks.
After a weekend of sanding, filing and scribing.
First coat of primer reveals a few spots that still need attention.
I blew up the schematic in the instructions 235% to cut out the wing walkways masks.
Just needs a little bit of touch up, then gloss.
Major topside markings are on, and I am impressed (if not surprised) with how well they snuggled into the details.
Decals done. One exhaust stack installed. The other I dropped inside the fuselage. Ugh. Prop test fitted with blue tack.
While I'm waiting on a replacement set of exhausts, I decided to bust out the V-1 from the 1/48 Tamiya Meteor kit to compliment this build.
Buy a 9$ resin replacement prop and spinner only to find out that the spinner is too big and the prop blades are way to thick, too short and tilt too far forward. Ugh. I will repaint the kit prop/spinner for the third time, and hope to get better results.
Getting so close! Masks are off. The formation lights look great. I should have the replacement exhaust tomorrow. After that, I will do some chipping, install the gear and prop, and be done.
Finished! Just waiting for a block of a few hours where I can get the light box out and take some proper photos.

Bart Goesaertit's a nice kit but the area between the cockpit and the tail is too short... seems they forgot to add a complete section there. you will only notice the when you are applying the decals, because you will have trouble lining out the left and right side... in this set you can see what I mean: scalemates.com/kits/154617-jaguar-64813-tempest-detail-set

Bart Goesaertno, the roundels, squadron and aircraft codes at the side of the hull. it didn't fit like it should on the eduard drawing compared to the model. In my album you can see what I mean if you compare these to the eduard instructions:

I've given the roundels a slight offset, afterwards I was talking to someone who built the same model, and talked about my problems with the decals. Then he mentioned that the area behind the cockpit was too small and that there was a correction for it... hence why his decals worked out better.

Derek JordanI think I might have met my match with this kit. I'm doing a lot of dry fitting and discovered that with the cockpit in place, the wheel wells will not allow the wing to fit on properly. I've spent hours sanding. I've sanded down the cockpit sides and floor until I am about to sand through the resin. I've sanded down the wheel wells until I am about to sand through the plastic pieces. I'm still about a 1/16'' from being able to make it all fit. I don't see where I can remove material anywhere to give me enough room for it all to fit. I'm about to throw it on the shelf of doom with the Class Airframes Goshawk and move on to something else.

Bart Goesaertnooooooooo.......... I think I thinded the wall on the wings to which the wheelbays are glued (another 0.5mm gained), and I thinned down the sides of the cockpit (plastic part) so that the cockpit can be mounted a little higher. I also chamfered the parts of the wheelbays that face eachother and sanded a little through the cockpitfloor to get a fit. That last one was minimal, but it can't be seen in the end) I read my old report on it and the wings need a lot of thinning to fit, and also to make the flaps and ailerons thinner, for that I sanded the rear parts of the wing thinner. In the end the connection between the wings and the hull we're more problematic 😉

Derek JordanBart, I think I've found a solution. I can probably get a little more room by thinning the wings as you suggested, but I can shift the wheel well inserts outboard slightly and avoid the problem.

Bryce NicelySo, I didn't see some of these photos earlier, it's looking to me like your dry-fit solution is working? Or do you not have the cockpit in for that photo with the wings attached?

Derek JordanB Nice., actually I've sanded everything I can, including blowing through the bottom of the cockpit. I sanded down the tops and bottoms of both wheel well inserts, and the wing itself. I also pushed the wheel well inserts outboard about 1mm (as you can see in the picture). Tonight I finished drilling out the shell ejector ports, installed the landing lights and the little PE ring around them, and did a final test fit before I start gluing the wings together.

Spanjaardi really like your idea for the formation lights. i have to remember that one. i would suggest to mask with some liquid mask. but of course, first try in one piece of the same transparent acrylic to avoid nasty surprises... and keep it maskes as little time as possible

Derek JordanSpanjaard, I have actually already used liquid mask on them. I didn't even think to try it on acrylic. Now I'm worried there will be some unforseen issue. Uhoh.
