I served as a Recovery Mechanic in a Challenger 1 Sabre Squadron, this was my bread and butter.
Both vehicles had a reputation for not being mechanically reliable. From my experience this was 2 fold: Firstly Chieftain ARRV were 20 year old when converted from ARV to ARRV and no automotive upgrades were done, chieftain always struggled towing a heavier tank, but she was lovable and always made a good effort; Secondly Challenger 1 spend a lot of time in hangers being polished, then suddenly we would take out and expect them to operate at 100%. They didn't, however during Op Granby (Desert Storm if you are American) Challenger 1 operated and performed fantastically and in many cases beyond expectations.
The Diorama is based on BAOR with a early Mark 2 Challenger being Towed by Mk7 Chaiftain ARRV, in a NW European landscape.
