1/72 Airfix BAe Spitfire Mk.1x "Raspberry Ripple"

Album image #1
This bird started out as a Quad of Spitfires built in a production line style with my Brother and currently is set to be the 3rd completed.

Album image #2
These were at the time the 6 current Raspberry Ripples in my fleet.

Album image #5
I wanted a modernised looking set of Air intakes.
I have no clue what these are but I found them in the spares box and I think it really works!

Album image #6
Another with fellow Raspberry Ripple on the bench.
The Hawk T.1 and Zlin Z-142 are now finished.
Also the Typhoon Gun pod bulge has been added under the right side of the nose to act as an info recording housing.

Album image #7
I tucked into the Special Hobby Seafire's spares and I think this upgraded 5 blade prop really works.
I also used the Seafires spare exhausts.

Album image #8
The underwing extended fuel tanks really add something to the model IMHO.

Album image #9
Another light coat of primer added.

Album image #10
Those are Sea Fury Drop Tanks.

Album image #11
All primed again...

Album image #12
I like that prop!

Album image #13
I fitted a fully upgraded cockpit using a Hawk T.1 instrument panel, Typhoon Ejection Seat and a full round of dry brushing and weathering to enhance the detail.

Album image #14
Another angle.

Album image #15
You can see in this image the F-35A dorsal spine antenna has been fitted to replace the Mk.1's large areal which gives it a more modern look.

Album image #16
I slowly added the Spitfires standard Air intake and a spare spare from the F-35A's ejection seat which didn't get used and has been employed here as the Spit's newly upgraded Air Speed Indicator sensor(basically a PITOT tube).

Album image #17
Those parts in front of ge Air intakes have nod been removed.

Album image #18
Sea Fury Drop Tanks have been sanded.

Album image #19
Another angle.

She finally has colour after a long time.

Album image #21
Same progress, different angle....

Album image #22
Wow the Spitfire looks abit of alright in the Raspberry Ripple scheme!!!!!

Album image #23
A further 3 light brush coats of blue have been added and I'm getting much happier with the overall look of her.

Album image #24
Paintwork nearly finished and I fancied seeing what the anti-flash black would look like.
Well impressed

Album image #25
I've painted the canopy and exhaust nozzles.

Album image #26
She's finished!

Album image #27
I'm nit overly happy with the roundels though so the 2 fuselage and 2 under wing decals maybe replaced at some point.

Album image #28
I settled on the registration being XP291.

Album image #29
A few months later I kept looking at 291, and looking...... and looking..... yeah I wasn't 100% happy as there was just something missing....

Album image #30
I painted the prop cone partly Black and the F-35 radio antenna.
I also noticed that I hadn't clear coated 291 so now she if officially finished!

Album info

Sit tight as this is going to be 1 hell of a ride!

So I had a couple of built but unpainted Airfix Spitfire Mk.1 on the shelf of doom and had no idea what to do with them.
They started as a quad build that myself and my younger brother did a number of years ago.
1 ended up in the black night fighter scheme, another ended up in a bright tiger meet scheme, theres a 4th that hasn't had anything done to it yet and then this 1.

So the idea for a Raspberry Ripple Spit came when I recieved a Special Hobby Seafire for xmas 2019.
It has a ton of extra unused parts.
So I came up with the idea of using these extra parts on this spit and painting her into a Raspberry Ripple scheme that will take its inspiration from the cover image.

Special Hobby Seafire parts used:
Under wing fuel tank bulges
5 bladed propeller

Naturally other parts unused from other kits and old broken models were then added:
Airfix A-4B Skyhawk upper fuselage radome

Italeri F-35A Lightning II antenna
Italeri F-35A Lightning II Ejection Seat part(I dont knownwhat it is)
PM Models Sea Fury Drop Tanks
Revell Hawk T.1 instrument panel
Revell Typhoon T.2 Ejection Seat
Revell Typhoon T.2 nose gun pod
Trumpeter Wyvern RATO gear - possibly not going to be used.
Zvezda MiG-29 belly tank support bars - added and then removed.

I was looking for some more modern looking air intakes and found a pair in the spares box, no idea what they are but they work!
