Yes, I know that the "Memphis Belle" was an -F model, but at the time, I couldn't find a 1/48 -F model at ANY price. And I certainly didn't have time to remove and fair over the chin turret!

yeah but the colours are good 🙂
I've just bought a 1:48 G, is the chin turret the only visual difference between the G and F versions ?
And are you familiar with this kit ?

Thanks! The chin Turret and the staggered waist guns are the biggest differences between the two. There are numerous other minor ones but those are the major ones. I have not bounced off the references here with the ones in my stash yet. When I looked over the Starfighter ones I had to add Six! LOL But yes, I have built two of the 1/48 Monogram beasts! Not always easy but labours of love and very commanding sitting on a shelf or hanging from a ceiling! 😉 When you do build it, there are also numerous references on the web also. If you have any questions, you can post them - I am sure someone would be able to help!

I was just curious I will be building it as a G anyway, but I want it oliver drab rather than silver 🙂

Right scheme and version for Sally B. (She's a G painted as 'belle). Just missing her specific nose art and chequred inner cowling.

Chequered inner cowling ? Which engine(s) is that on ?
Did not realise Belle had that

Thanks! Roy, if I had realized that I would have looked for those decals! As it was, I had a hard enough time coming across the old Revell decals that I used - and I had to replace most of the "Circle and Stars" by modifying the Monogram "Bars and Stars" that came with the kit!! 😉

Other than at Long Beach the staggered waist windows came along late in G Series production that is generall precieved. Tail position and cheek positions varied alot too of course depending on the planes were routed through the mod centers..

interesting as the other versions are I think I do prefer the G version, luckily as both of my kits are G, which was just luck 🙂
lots of variations of the B-17 like the one used in that bond movie that catches a balloon wire and hoists them into the air or the one they developed for the Goblin parasite plane test plus there is a fair few schemes to choose from etc. possibly the most interesting best looking bomber of all time 😄

My big 1:48 B17 arrived today 🙂

Did you got yourself the Monogrm kit?
28 August 2014, 14:40
Choppa Nutta
yeah, this one 🙂
My first impression overall is good, weighted wheels with tread, some half decent ground crew figures and the internal detail is ok too, decals are good too, add a bit of cockpit and engine PE & a little wiring to spruce things up. The ball turret detail is limited though and it is a shame the bomb doors are not separate pieces. Though there are some minor issues I think it will be capable of a good build with a bit of effort. I think I will refrain from going bonkers with the after market stuff, cockpit and engine PE and maybe a mask set too everything else I will scratch build where needed. Tempting to put some motors in for spinning of the props and maybe some lights, I have few odds and sods that would do 🙂

The crew access doors and bomb bay doors are easy enough to open, plenty of plastic to thin! LOL Yeah, they did not spare the plastic when they made the original molds!

@ Choppa: Lucky you! Does it have pe parts too?
28 August 2014, 19:28
Choppa Nutta
haha No ! you must be joking at this price 🙂
though for another £15 you can get a set of masks, Cockpit and seat belts PE which make it a Profi so to speak 🙂

Es-haq, re-reading some of the comments I think I may have misunderstood your last question, the Eduard Profi packs do come with PE and masks as well as very nice and extensive decal sheets but ....

Hey Phil, that's what propellers do don't they though hey😉

my B-17 does not have the PE that the PRO Modeler version does, hope that clarifies 😄
One I don't like about my version of the kit is the instructions for decal placement are not very clear at all...
anyhow, a little research on google will help no doubt 🙂
