nice engines... How the rest of the airplane will look like?

the rest will look roughly like a S.79 - hopefully
🙂

I will be adding more photos, but don't expect anything too informative, it rather serves as a mere proof that I am doing something😉

btw, I am not using the Pavla engines after all. They suck. I am keeping the set in a list of stuff needed, I guess I might use at least those resin wheels.. they look like an exact copy of the kit parts, but at least I won't need to glue them together :/

Love the engines they look fantastic. Looking forward to seeing lots more photos of the work in progress. If you need any help for this aircraft give me a call. I have done a massive amount of research on this aircraft and maybe able to help solve a problem for you. All the best Vladimir.

Hi Bill,
I will certainly appreciate any info you could share. On the other hand, TBH, I don't plan to make this kit too thoroughly... I never did a mottling camouflage before and this should serve as a training. so, realistically, result won't be that good no matter what - it's a first attempt, enough said. Also, I started the build two years ago already..I did some parts cleanup, glued wings together, and painted the props, engines and cowlings. Those I had to redo completely anyway, as 2 years ago I was using paintbrush and they did not fit my todays standard.. So... even building this kit "out of the box" frustrated me enough to keep it on my "shelf of doom" for two years. mind you, normally I hate unfinished kits and tend to finish everything asap. It not (only) the kit's fault, but... I dunno. So, now I just want to get rid of it so it does not depress me anymore😉

Anyhow - I will appreciate if you could confirm the camouflage info I have. I have quite a few books on Sparviero/Italian Airforce in general, but I only found info and a not too good photo of this machine in an old Squadron book. Info there (not to mention Italeri instructions) is probably not completely correct - at least according to an info I found on Stormo! forums.. a guy called Stefano IIRC claims there:
the prop blades should be blue-gray, not silver
OTOH the plane bottom should be silver, not gray
prop hubs yellow, not white
mottling should by much more dense than indicated on Squadron pictures

I would very much appreciate some kind of a mottling pattern example - I really don't know how to start.
Fortunately there is still a LOT of sanding and puttying between me and the paintjob😉

oh, and thank you!😉

I forgot to say, this will be the inbox variant from Pantelleria...but it's the only one with yellow cowlings, so I guess it is clear anyway

This is a wonderful kit to build. Very detailed and with plastic of good quality. The decals are great. The camopatern took me a week to apply. My album is somewhere around here.

Hi Vladimir, I know the aircraft and photo you refer to and also intend to build this colour scheme. I will check my information and get back to you. I will not contradict the persons comments as I have learnt there is always that photo or opinion identifying a photo that has people with a different opinion or information we dont have. Therefore gather as much information as possible to a set date on the particular aircraft and make your decision based on the information at hand. Whether the information is totally correct or not you must make a decision to complete the model otherwise we get nothing built. Use my SM79 as an example, the photos showing the interior (aircraft number two) was stripped two times to get it to where you see my photos. I was getting bogged down and nothing finished so I said enough is enough (there are plenty mistakes with my SM79, but for that kit, time to move on). You will see on my model (aircraft number one) the props are metal. The one change I would do is position the prop makers name a further 2mm towards the prop hub. Thats for the next kit though.

Vladimir, I also meant to say I think your engine cowling colours are spot on. I have seen colours on some aircraft same as your colours. When I painted my cowling I used silver and red and mixed to a colour I was satisfied with rather than painting it copper as most instructions will say, I think they say that simply because it is a reasonable colour match.

Hi Bill,
my "trick" to paint the exhaust rings is to paint it brown, then spray with matt or semi-matt varnish, and then rub it with graphite powder and finally polish it with a piece of cloth. I get the powder simply by grating a pencil with a scalpel. For rubbing, I use a small brush with hair cut to about 1 mm length. The matt varnish is used to make the graphite stick better to the surface. Any excess graphite can be simply cleaned with a soft pencil eraser, or even a piece of tack-it.
This is so much better than an, often suggested, bronze or copper color.. It is not my idea, I have read it somewhere on the internets, but I don't remember where, so I can't give a proper credit.

Thanks for the tip,i will try that method on my Swordfish mk1

you are welcome. btw, you can improve this trick - use Alclad II (any aluminium shade you find suitable, I used duraluminium IIRC) as a base color. then overspray it with brown color, again, any shade you like and find most realistic looking, brown or reddish, just keep in mind that graphite will darken it considerably afterwards. Important is to use a water-based acrylic which won't react with Alclad - I am using Vallejo colors. While the color is still semi-fresh, use a wet cocktail stick tu rub some of the brown color off. Then you use the graphite powder as above, only do not use the matt varnish or graphite will stick to Alclad as well, you don't want it - target result is to have a shiny metal ring with only some patches of burnt oxidization. I tried it first time on my Swordfish Mk.III, I am quite happy with the result:

Although I made that mistake with overspraying Alclad with varnish, which ruins the effect a bit.

Btw, Swordfish is my favourite subject, I would love to see yours.
