I got this kit thinking it was 1/72nd scale ... silly me! Well, I painted it the best Voodoo grey I could find and used the best Canadian decals I had in my spares box. I bought it and I was going to build it, darn!

Far be it from me to speak for Rui, but a little weathering can help give a sense of depth to a model. A scale replica has shadows for instance, but they don't match the shadows on the real thing, not being in scale, so a little light weathering or at least a wash would help create these and would enhance a model, even if you wanted to depict a just-issued vehicle. My $0.03, corrected for inflation. Cool subject and build. I like the rarely seen yellow markings. 👍

Hi John,
Thank you very much for your reply. Now ... correct me if I am wrong, but when you are writing about shadows, you a referring to shading, and not weathering? I always thought weathering was adding wear marks, dirt, soot, mud and oil/gas stains to a kit? Anyways, as is obvious, I do neither.
As for shading, I certainly see what you are getting at, but I don't understand how shadows would not be in scale on a model. For me, the only thing I have to go on is what I have seen. I have only seen one Panzer II, in the Canadian War Museum, and excepting for dust, it was a pretty clean vehicle. And I could discern no shadows other than what was thrown by the light. See picture 2 in the photo album.
That said, I readily acknowledge your point. Shading, or washing, seems to be especially helpful with aircraft, in bigger scales, to highlight engraved panel lines. Finally, regarding tanks etc. I recall reading a great quote that went along these lines: a tank is only every clean for the time between washing it down and turning the engine over ... because it instantly becomes dirty again!
That said, I guess my Panzer II model is a museum piece!
(Again, I caution all, if you want to build a great and easy Panzer II, get the fine Tamiya kit. The Alan kit is not worth the hassle, even if it is cheaper, as it REALLY tested my modest modelling skills.)

Colour can always be discussed, might be the lighting or the camera.
Anyways the masking is really nice. 😉

First: my apology for not knowing how to make, or the correct order for making, projects and photoalbums. The previous deletions were my bad.
Finished this circa 2016, and very much enjoyed it, an old kit that still looks the part. Painted with ... dollar store silver (to which I added the pigment from Tamiya silver, but NOT the lacquer) and decals were mostly an awesome Canmilair set with the kit decals.
